Military Funerals
We are honored to serve military families, and have been doing so for over 100 years. The professionals at Dannel Funeral Home will help you arrange final tributes with a military funeral, military ceremonies, flag folding and presentation, an honor guard, the playing of Taps, and other acknowledgements reserved for military members on active duty, in the Selected Reserve, and veterans who served on active duty and received an honorable discharge.
Working with the Veteran’s Administration, we can provide you with information on eligibility, benefits, required documentation, time limitations for filing, and requirements for full military honors. You can review details on the VA website. Of course, military honors are provided to the family of qualifying military members at no additional cost.
Options for Interment
A veteran can be buried in a national cemetery like the Dallas Fort-Worth National Cemetery, a National Park Service cemetery, a state veterans cemetery, or a private cemetery. If desired, we will assist in requesting a government-provided headstone or marker, and can assist with options like a presidential memorial certificate and/or a burial flag.
Because there are numerous regulations and eligibility requirements, preparing for military funerals requires thoughtful attention to detail. For instance, if you prefer a flag draped over the coffin during the funeral, flowers can’t be placed on top of the flag. There are ways to include flowers, however, within guidelines. The professional staff at Dannel Funeral Home will help you navigate the many regulations and protocols associated with a funeral with military honors.
The Coast Guard offers burial at sea for cremated remains of military personnel, dependents, and civilians, and will provide Military Honors when appropriate.
