Obituary For Alene M. Wilson

Alene McKinney Wilson, 77, of Sherman, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Friday, June 9, 2023, in Sherman, Texas.

The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Friendship United Methodist Church with a Celebration of Life Service, commencing immediately following the visitation at 2:00 pm. Friendship United Methodist Church is located at 293 N. Friendship Road, Sherman, Texas 75092. The Celebration of Life service will be officiated by Friendship United Methodist Church’s Pastor, Dr. Rev. Roy Spore. The arrangements are being handled by Dannel Funeral Home.

Alene was born in Lake Wales, Florida, to Arthur Ray McKinney and Mattie Estelle Terry on November 21, 1945. She graduated from Lake Wales High School in 1963. She attended classes at Polk County Junior College in Lake Wales, Florida and Grayson County College in Denison, Texas. Alene worked as a travel agent for over 20 years in the Sherman area. She began her travel agent career with North Texas Travel Agency and finished her career with Associated Travel. Her career as a travel agent allowed her the opportunity to visit many historic locations and iconic destinations around the world.

Alene was a faithful member of Friendship United Methodist Church for over 25 years. While a member, she was a dedicated volunteer for Friendship Church’s annual Chili Stew Feast and Bizarre fundraising event, she enjoyed canning with the ladies of the church and she served as the Church Treasurer for many years.

Alene is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Ray McKinney and Mattie Estelle McKinney, brothers, Olin McKinney and Bobby McKinney, and sister, Francis Sims.

Alene is survived by her husband of 51 years, Chuck Wilson, son, Craig William O’Donnell, Jr and wife, Shelley, of McKinney, Texas, daughter, Jennifer Lane and husband, Benny, of Frisco, Texas, son, Brent Wilson and wife, Amy Jo, of Sherman, Texas, and numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her beloved four-legged “babies,” Murphy, Abby and Waddles.

Memorials may be sent to Visionary Home Health, Birdie Hospice and Friendship United Methodist Church. The family would like to extend its sincere thanks to Visionary Home Health and Birdie Hospice for the exceptional care provided to Alene during this trying time.
