Obituary For Alice Hall
Alice Humphries Hall passed away peacefully at her home in Sherman on October 22 2013. Memorial services will be held Tuesday October 29 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Sherman at 12:30pm with Rev. Chris Dowd officiating. Alice was born on August 8 1931 in Newport Arkansas. She moved to Little Rock at age three when her father Wm L. Humphries became Commissioner of Education of the State of Arkansas. She attended public schools in Little Rock graduating from Central High School in 1949. She attended Hollins College in Virginia for one year before transferring to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. In January 1952 she had a blind date with Jack Hall and they immediately fell in love. They were married July 22 1952 in Little Rock and moved to Hampton Virginia while Jack finished his US Army service during the Korean War. After Jack"¢s discharge they moved to Austin Texas to complete college then moved to Sherman in 1955. After eight years at Hall Furniture Co. Jack started an insurance agency where he remained until he retired in 2002. Alice was an immense public relations asset for Jack"¢s business and active in many local organizations including volunteer work at the Sherman Service League Camp Fire Girls and the United Way. She was a member of many clubs some for over fifty years including Current Review Tuesday Study Club Pi Beta Phi Alumni Club Friday Bridge Club and the Hors D"¢Oeuvres Club. Alice had many friends and all who knew her loved her. She was always considerate of the feelings of others and rarely had a bad word to say about anyone. Most of all she was joyful to be with and enjoyed life to the fullest. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She and Jack made dozens of trips over the United States and overseas and always traveled on their own to better learn how others lived. Inevitably they were always happy to get back to Sherman no matter how successful the trip had been. She is survived by her husband of 61 years Jack and their three daughters Susan Stancil and her husband Jim of Fayetteville Arkansas and their two children Lisa Stancil and Sharon Florquist and her husband Lane, daughter Lisa Hall of New Orleans, and daughter Carol Hare and her husband Robert of Aledo Texas and their two children Jeanice Hare and Jack Hare. Also surviving is Alice"¢s brother Dr. William L. Humphries Jr. and his wife Sarah Kay of Little Rock and their children and grandchildren. She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the Hall family suggests memorial donations be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County 505 W. Center St. Sherman 75090 or the donor""¢s favorite charity.
