Juanita Murphy, 81, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on October 24, 2023 in Flower Mound, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 28, 2023 at West Hill Cemetery, 1304 W Lamar St, Sherman, Texas 75092. Arrangements are by Dannel Funeral Home also of Sherman, Texas. Juanita was born in Mesquite, Texas to Everett and Ethel McLaughlin on March 4, 1942. She graduated from Grand Prairie High School and received a Bachelor’s of Education and Master’s of Science in Child Development from Texas Women’s University. Juanita married Jerry Murphy on January 9, 1965 in Sherman, Texas. She worked for the Extension Service in Sherman and later became a teacher, serving in the McKinney Independent School District for over 20 years. Juanita was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed a healthy, loving marriage of 43 years and raised two children. She helped care for a sick granddaughter, helped raise a grandson, and was a dedicated and compassionate teacher to countless students during her career. Juanita and Jerry were members of the Westside Church of Christ in McKinney for many years. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, conversation on the patio, popcorn, her dog (of which there were several in succession), horror movies, and the occasional margarita. If you knew Juanita, you were sure to know her warmth and caring, her sense of humor, her smile, and certainly her hugs. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Murphy, brothers Everett McLaughlin and Thomas McLaughlin, sister Wanda Roberts, granddaughter Makinzie Murphy, and parents Everett and Ethel McLaughlin. She is survived by her son Jeremy Murphy, daughter Jennifer Murphy, grandson Justin Murphy, two great grandchildren and many cousins, nephews and nieces. The Murphy family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to those who cared for her including Victor and the staff at her care home, the nurses of Ardent Hospice (Frances, Betty, and Celina), all of her many doctors, and especially Pam Williams.

Your Mom was always so kind. I had her for Home Ec. my freshman year. She was so patient with us. I'm grateful that I was able to have a Home Ec. class in school and someone like your sweet Momma to teach me valuable skills I would use for the rest of my life. Praying for you and your family. May she rest peacefully in the arms of our Savior.

50 years a friendship cannot be summed up in one paragraph. Jerry and Juanita were more than neighbors. They were family. They welcomed us into the neighborhood the day we moved in. Jeremy, Jennifer, and Julie spent many hours playing together. After Jerry died, I didn't get to see Juanita as much as I wanted to because she moved to be closer to her kids. We had many long conversations on the phone . I will miss our shared laughter and the presence of her in my life. Juanita was one in 1 million, the best of the best and loved by many. ... Until we meet again.. Polly

Oh Jennifer and Jeremy. We had so much fun being with y'all's Mom and dad when we were all at Westside and then High Pointe. Especially Westside church of Christ. Our group of adults had fun parties and get together. There was so many and we had a blast. Life has gone fast and sadly we have all drifted apart. It's sad but it happens. Know we loved your momma and daddy and you kids and grandkids. We will not be at the service because our grand daughter has a performance. Love y'all.

I have so many fond memories of Juanita. She kept me sane as we volunteered together at Slaughter elementary school in McKinney, she was always eager to help out. We spent countless hours on her back patio talking and laughing through life's crazy times. She was an inspiration to me and most definitely an amazing confidant. I'll miss her laugh, smile, and most of all her warm hugs. Thanks for everything Juanita. You truly helped me navigate motherhood and dealing with the challenges of having a young child in school. I'll never forget all the times you kept my spirits high while I navigated the early days of my MS diagnosis. Thanks for lovingly giving me sugar at 4am when the ambien made me crazy. My heart is so full from all the love and laughter you brought to my life. Jennifer, Jeremy, and Justin, thank you for sharing her with me. I love you all. My thoughts and prayers are with you today and always. Your family is very special to me.
