Obituary For Alvin Houston Austin

Alvin Austin was born in Dodd City, Texas, on September 22, 1932, the son of Frank Edward Austin and Minnie Lucille Pratt. He was preceded in transition by all six of his siblings Ennis, Frank, Lena, Barbara, Nettie, and Robert. Alvin is survived by his four children Jeff Austin, Sharon Austin-Peters, Ingrid Austin-Hunt and Aaron Glenn Austin. He also has numerous grandchildren and a spattering of great grandchildren. Last but certainly not least, his faithful sweetheart Jessie Martin.

Alvin was an avid golfer for many years of his adult life, traveling with good friends and playing in various tournaments around the country, he enjoyed working, and was often found riding on his tractor, cutting grass, or “piddling” in his garage at any given minute.

He loved people being around, he was kind, generous, and liked to entertain his family from out of town anytime they wanted to come.

Alvin will be missed by friends too numerous to mention. He was the epitome of the saying, “you have to be a friend before you can have friends”. He was a friend; in time of need, or abundance he was consistent. Always willing to share what he had to make things better.

He would always say, “Just keep working and all things will come out alright”. He worked until the very end and we know that everything is certainly alright because of him. The measure of a man begins with faith, balance of life, and great reputation. He embodied all those things, and so much more.

I remember meeting cousin Alvin for the 1st time in 2022 at the Pratt family reconnection reunion. He was full of joy and life. I was in awe of how much he reminded me of my grandfather- one of his uncles. They resembled each other in appearance and mannerisms. He was a 1st cousin to my mom and her siblings. I was able to talk with him on the phone over the last 3years as well and it was a joy as he shared family memories of elder family members. I cherish being able to connect with and meet him. I remember my grandfather saying he had to go visit his sister Minnie - Alvin's mom. I wished he would take me with him but I lived in another state. Cousin Alvin displayed that Pratt Austin trait of Perseverance and love of life and independence 🙏🏿
