Obituary For Ava Jarvis
Ava Ora Jarvis 97 of Sherman passed away on Sunday June 19 2011. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held Friday June 24 2011 at 1 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Gibson of Custer Road United Methodist Church Plano officiating. The family will be at the funeral home following the memorial service. There will be a private interment service in West Hill Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Ava Ora was born in Carthage TX on Sept. 13 1913 to Lee and Lena (Sims) Allums. She was educated in the Carthage public schools and attended college at Stephen F. Austin State College. She married Linous Jarvis on Dec. 12 1931 in Beckville TX. They moved to Sherman in 1939 and he served on the Sherman City Council and also as Deputy Mayor. He preceded her in death on April 6 1991. Ava Ora was a homemaker and also a food service manager SISD for twenty-five years. She was an active member of Key Memorial United Methodist Church serving as president of the Key Bible Class and also a member of the Golden Keys and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Sherman Red Hatter Society and the Sundowners Home Extension Club. Ava Ora was preceded in death by her parents her husband a brother Aaron Allums and two sisters: Ruth Allums Whitaker and Joyce Allums Sinclair. She is survived by two daughters: Martha Box and husband Steve of Dallas and Kay White and husband Steve of Austin, three sons: Thomas Jarvis and wife Jerri of Sherman Bill Jarvis and wife Joyce of Sherman and Don Jarvis and Sue Terry of Sherman. Survivors also include 15 grandchildren 31 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all of Ava Ora"s caregivers especially Lois Raines and Mary Ortega who have cared for her several years. Also to the staff of Home Hospice for their loving care.
