Obituary For AW Croney

– AW “Dub” Croney, 83, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 in Denison, Texas. AW “Dub” Croney was born on April 26, 1937 in Chickasaw, Oklahoma. Dub served 2 years in the U.S Army, he loved to sing Gospel Music with his then wife Wilma at their Church in Sherman, loved long visits from family and friends and liked spending some down time fishing every now and then.

With his wife Wilma, Dub lived out and fulfilled his dream of breeding and raising Appaloosa horses for more than 20 years, qualifying for the World Appaloosa Show in 1991 with Skips Evening Star. He was a longtime member of the Dal-Worth Appaloosa Horse Club. Dub was also an active member of Victory Baptist Church in Sherman.

Dub was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Wilma Croney, parents, Charles and Marie Croney, Brother, Frank Croney, Sisters, Denola Hileman, Charline Shearhart, Donna Baumgartel, and Wilma Newkirk.

Dub is survived by a brother, Terry Croney, daughter Tammy Watson and Frank of Aransas Pass, sons Wayne Croney and Christina of Whitesboro, Boyd Highlander and Vicky of Tom Bean, Stuart Highlander and Laura of Decatur, Kevin Highlander and Karen of Oak Point, Shawn Kelley and Carmen of Luella,16 grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.

The family would like to thank TMC Home Health, Woodlands Place Rehabilitation Suites and Hospice Plus for their caring and compassionate service.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 31, 2020 at 1 pm at Victory Baptist Church in Sherman, with pastor Kenneth A. Dacus officiating. Interment will follow at Vittitoe Cemetery in Whitewright, with Frank Watson, Shawn Kelley, Jimmy Walden, Joe Walden, Jeremy Croney, Joshua Highlander, and C.J. Nix serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Durrel Rickerson, Lonnie Jones, and Ron Crockett. Visitation will be held at Dannel Funeral Home Wednesday December 30, 2020 from 5 to 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in Dubs name. In the words of Dub Croney, “Live your life and be happy because life is too short to be unhappy for even one day.”
