Obituary For Barbara Janet Holder

Barbara, known to many as “B.J.”, was born August 9, 1938 to parents Roy Daniel and Helen Gertrude Jones. She left this world to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, April 12, 2024.

Barbara grew up and attended Sherman public schools where she was an honor student. She graduated from Sherman High School in 1956. After graduation, she moved to Springfield, MO, to live with her grandparents W.O. (Bill) and Florence Calvin Dodd and to work for Graphoanalysis Company, which offered a correspondence course for hand writing analysis. Following that job Barbara moved to Houston, TX where she learned and enjoyed the insurance business. One of note was Alexander and Alexander where she was Vice President responsible for managing the insurance needs of the Paramount Studios.

Barbara married Ronald W. Holder on September 2, 1978. After they married, they lived in Bryan, TX, where Ron worked for an engineering firm located on the Texas A&M campus. They later moved to Katy, TX and eventually Farmers Branch, TX, where they started their Holder Realty business. After Ron’s retirement, they closed the real estate business and Barbara worked for an oil exploration company until her retirement in 2008. After Ron’s passing in March, 2009, Barbara moved back to Sherman to be closer to her family.

After she settled in Sherman, she rejoined North Park Baptist Church which she had attended prior to moving away from Sherman. She often talked to her family about how she enjoyed her Church friends and particularly the ladies in her Sunday School class.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her great niece Emily Marie Rogers. She is survived by 3 sisters: Judy and husband Wayne Blakey, Carol and husband Richard Morris and Martha and husband Dwight Rogers. In addition, she is survived by her nephews, Ellis Green, Brian Blakey, Craig Blakey, Jerry Rogers, Terry Rogers and Eric Rogers. She is also survived by 11 great nieces and nephews: Kaleb and Jordyn Blakey, Mary Anne McIinnis, Brady Blakey, Parker, Cooper, Fischer, and Carter Rogers, Phillip, Evan and Neallee Rogers and 1 Great Grandniece, Katie Rogers.

A family gathering to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at the Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00. Both Barbara and Ron elected to be cremated and will be buried at Cedarlawn Cemetery.

Barbara and I were classmates from Jefferson Elementary through Sherman High School class of 1956. She was always a joy to be associated with and a loyal friend. We had many class luncheons together and kept in touch that way. Unfortunately since covid our luncheons were limited which I missed having the opportunity to catch up with Barbara. She always had a smile on her face and a great story to share and a great Christian. . She will be missed. Rest in peace. Till we meet again, Gwen Orr Smith

Barbara was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School class at North Park Baptist Church. She was such a joy to be with and could always say something to make us laugh! We love you and will always miss you Barbara. Our love and prayers go out to your family at this time. Ruby Fielder Thompson and the Gleaners Class.
