Obituary For Bennett Royce McNulty

“Say not in grief that ‘he is no more’ but in thankfulness that a he was.” - Hebrew Proverb.

With heavy hearts the family of Bennett “Ben” McNulty Sr.,86, of Gordonville, Texas would like to let you know our Dad and Grandpa has fulfilled his mission here on Earth. He peacefully passed on with his daughter’s, Brenda and Jane, by his side. Dad will now be joining the love of his life, his wife Barbara, who received an assignment she couldn’t refuse on January 29th, 2021. They will now be able to complete their final assignment together. He will receive his sign on bonus - entrance into a place of serenity celebrating with our loved ones who have gone before us. He will be reunited with his parents, sisters, wife and grandsons.

Dad and his twin sister Wanda were born to Bennett and Tennie McNulty in Knox City, Texas on November 23, 1936.

Bennett, also known as Dad, Papa, Big Ben, Bochie or Poopise Baby, married the love of his life and best friend Barbara Hollingsworth on November 28, 1953. Their story would last 67 years. Dad’s work history started at a young age working for several gas stations before starting his career in law enforcement for 19 years. Upon retiring from the police department he worked for Texaco Natural Gas for 24 years before reaching his final retirement.

Each person brings a gift to this world which they will leave behind and Dad was a man with a creative mind, as well as a Jack of all Trades. I can’t think of many things he couldn’t make or fix. He was excellent at Gun Smithing, painting woodworking and remodeling old cars. Mom and Dad enjoyed participating in craft shows and flea markets with their daughter Jane.

In my parents’ life they brought three children into this world and in turn they ended up with eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, eleven bonus grandchildren and two bonus children. Maybe if we listen real close we will be able to hear his whisper in the wind or in the buzz of a saw. Dad will forever be loved, missed and his memory will leave in our hearts. Surviving family includes daughters Brenda “BJ” Walton, Jane Dunham and Terry; son Ben McNulty, Jr. and Krista; grandchildren Heather Wallace and Kelly, April Petit and Sachio, Kerri

Dunham and Robert, Garret Dunham and Gil, Chris Martin, Skyler Smith and Greg; great- grandchildren McKenzie Wallace and Dallan, Sierrah Adams, Chase Weinette, Jet Petit, Zoey Dunham, Becca Martin, Bransyn Smith, Nix Smith, Bostyn Smith and Sydney Smith. Bonus grandchildren include Micha, Malachi, Amira, Bryce and Robbie.

Predeceased in death: wife Barbara McNulty, grandsons Chase Wallace and Ben McNulty III, parents Bennett and Tennie McNulty, sisters Wanda McNulty and Jo Beyer, as well as many other family members and close friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Grayson County for the loving care shown to Dad.

You may sign the online guestbook at www.Dannelfuneralhome.com. Service will be at a later time.

Q: What 3 words best describe Bennett and why? A: My Everything - Always I am not sure how I even how the strength to comment. Papa was my person - my everything, especially after losing Grandma. He knew I loved him . I tried so hard to be the person holding his hand in the end, but that was not meant to be. Instead my mother and my aunt, his daughters. were dealt this gift. Jewish tradition holds that a door or window must be opened so that the soul may pass. My mother held true to this responsibility.
