Obituary For Betty Cameron
Betty Jean Hines Walker Cameron, 85, long-time resident of Sherman, passed from this life early Tuesday morning, January 13, 2015, at Pecan Point Assisted Living Facility. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15th, at Dannel Funeral Home. A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 16th, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Denise Odom officiating. Private interment will be in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Betty was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on October 20, 1929, to John Beyette Hines and Elva Francis Howard Hines. She graduated from Texas State College for Women. While she was teaching in west Texas, Betty met and married Morton Taylor Walker in 1950. They lived in Fort Worth, and in Sherman, where they raised their three children, Cindy, John and Susie. Betty's life focused on her children, education and church. Betty took the kids on many adventures. From being stranded out in the middle of Lake Texoma to visiting various lakes to gather fish for whatever wild animals the kids were currently feeding, there was never a dull moment. As an educator, she was a teacher and a leader. She taught special education classes and was an educational diagnostician. She served on a Governor's Council for Early Childhood in Austin and she was president of the Sherman Classroom Teachers Association. Betty wore m any hats with the First Presbyterian and, now Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was the Sunday School Superintendent, the craftsman who provided customized, needlepoint covers for the chairs in the narthex, vacation bible school assistant of many varieties, leader of the Women's Circle, representative to Grace Presbytery, and elder of both churches. Preceded in death by Taylor Walker, Betty is survived by her children: Cynthia Walker Jung, her husband, Walter, and her son William; John Taylor Walker, his wife Debbie and their four children: Brandon Taylor Walker, Casey Dean Walker, Haley Erin Walker, and Ashleigh Walker Davis, her husband Jordan and daughter, Ella; and Susan Cameron Walker and her sons, Jonathan McRae Rickard, his wife Laura and two children, Aidan and Katie, and Ryan Earl Rickard, his fiancé', Christi and her granddaughter, Raylie. She is survived by her husband from away, Charles Cameron. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 322 W. Pecan St. in Sherman, TX (75092), or to the American Heart Association.
