Obituary For Betty Carolyn Threadgill

On June 5th, 2018, Betty "Carolyn" Threadgill , passed from the loving arms of her family to those of our Lord Jesus Christ. Surrounded by family, Carolyn peacefully slipped away a the family home. She was a wonderful and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Dannel Funeral Home with Brother Bill Mayes officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 6 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Pallbearers will be John Loyd, David Loyd, Jeff Lillis, Garret Lillis, Van Ulrich and Brian McClaran.

Carolyn was born November 8, 1952 in Sherman, to James and Francis Loyd. Francis passed away when Carolyn was only five years old. Carolyn and her brother, Mike, were then raised by their aunt and uncle, Lois and Pete Groce. Carolyn attended Sherman schools and graduated with honors from Sherman High School in 1971. Shortly thereafter, on June 18, 1971, she married one of her brother's best friends, Ray Threadgill. Together they had two children: John Michael and Jennifer Renee.

Continuing her education at Grayson College, Carolyn earned an Associate's Degree in Business. She was employed by Sherman ISD for twenty-four years. Carolyn served as a teacher's aide at Churchfield Elementary and later as David Parker's secretary at Piner Middle School. She was respected by her co-workers and the many students with whom she made contact. Carolyn was honored several times: being selected as employee of the year from Crutchfield Elementary, Piner Middle School and also, for the entire school district. She loved her job and the students. As the students aged, Carolyn was later recognized as Mrs. Threadgill by her "full head of white hair". Carolyn retired due to her illness.

The Threadgill family were members of Woods Street Church of Christ. Carolyn enjoyed participating in Bible Studies - always prompt and bringing great discussions. She was a true Christian lady - showing what was in her heart through her everyday actions. Carolyn was a member of the Carpenters Chapter 183 Order of the Eastern Star.

At the time of Carolyn's diagnosis, Ray's sister, Jan, had recently retired from her teaching career. Together, Carolyn and Jan became the "Traveling Sisters". Once or twice a week they traveled - north, south, east, or west. It didn't matter to them! Jan likes to sew - and Carolyn had a knack for matching colors and designs. This was invaluable at the many quilts shops they visited. Carolyn was a giving person - buying for others and not for herself. She doted on her children and grandchildren (and sometimes on Ray). Carolyn could always find art supplies for granddaughter Ashleigh, jewelry for Grace and toy cars for Zachary. Carolyn loved to eat! Her favorite place was Lovejoy's in Whitesboro. The employees showed extra care to the "elderly couple" and continue to ask about Carolyn. Carolyn became Jan's "little sister". They shared their feelings and thoughts with each other. The two laughed together and cried together. Carolyn and Jan knew "some" of what was in the future and faced it boldly. Jesus Christ has always been with Carolyn - He held one hand and Carolyn's family held the other as she bravely left this earth for God's Kingdom. Carolyn has left all of us with many wonderful memories - we will not forget you! You were truly one of a kind - miss you already.

The family would like to thank Home Hospice of Grayson County, especially Ginna, Toni, Brittany, Ariana, Renee and Dennis for their kindness and caring attention. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Home hospice of Grayson County, 505 W. Center St., Sherman, Texas 75090 or to The Alzheimer's Association, Greater Dallas Chapter Office, 3001 Knox St., Suite 200, Dallas, Texas, 75205.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Ray Threadgill of almost 47 years; son Michael Threadgill and wife Melissa: daughter Jennifer Durham and wife Jennie: grandchildren Grace and Zachary Threadgill and Ashleigh Durham. Brothers: Jim Loyd and wife Carolyn; and Mike Loyd and wife Diane; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
