Obituary For Bobbie Shankles

Bobbie Jo Shankles (nee Campbell) passed away Thursday, July 12, at Brookdale Willow Retirement Center in Sherman. She was 87 years old. Bobbie (her preferred name) was born in Alba, Texas, on April 24, 1931, to Joe and Mozelle Campbell, both now deceased. She was a 1948 graduate of Sherman High School in Missouri. Bobbie briefly held a job as a cartographer in Dallas before marrying James Shankles, a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, in October of 1953. The couple was stationed in England, where their only son, James Jr. was born. After the family moved back to the U.S., a daughter, Jo Melinda, was born. Bobbie was happy to fill her early days as a military wife and mother. She enjoyed traveling and being a homemaker and was also an avid animal lover. In later years she proudly volunteered at the Sherman Library, where she researched and established a list of all the cemeteries of Grayson County. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at Dannel Funeral Home, Wednesday, July 18, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A graveside service will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 19, at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.

I remember Miss Bobbie....... I owned the Tobacco Isle shop at midway mall for many years and Miss Bobbie would pop in for a smoke and lively conversation. Her favourite smokes were Nat Sherman Fantasias, the cigarettes were in different hues. We spoke about her life in the U.K. and sometimes a bit of politics would slip in. May she rest in peace..... ~ bruce marsico, denison, Texas

Bobbie was a wonderful lady. She worked very diligently organizing the cemetery records for Grayson County by even going to the cemeteries and taking the information off the grave sites. Lee Main former Volunteer Coordinator at the Sherman Public Library
