Obituary For Bobby Charles Overbey
Bobby Charles Overbey (Pop), 91.5 yrs. old, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2022 in his home in Sherman Texas surrounded by family.
Celebration of Life will be held on February 26, 2022 at 11am at the family life center of First Baptist Dorchester. Address: 11831 FM 902 Dorchester, TX.
Bobby was born in Sherman, Texas to Tim and Ruby Overbey on July 1, 1930. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1948 where he was active on the Bearcat Football Team.
Bobby and his daddy Tim were both saved and baptized on April 21, 1940, at Forest Avenue Baptist Church in Sherman.
Bobby enlisted in the US Navy in 1950 and was a Korean war veteran. After his honorable discharge in July 1954, he met Wilma Allen at the White Pig Drive-In on Halloween night, and 43 days later on December 16, 1954 they were married. This marriage produced 3 sons, Bobby, Tim and Terry.
Upon discharge from the service, he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, a career that lasted 34 yrs. His work allowed him to travel to many different places including Texas, Arkansas, and Kingston, Jamaica.
Bobby (Pop) had a passion for boxing, fishing and camping at Lake Texoma, flying his plane, Golfing, building churches, serving his community through the American Red Cross, and spending time with family. He was up for almost any adventure.
Bobby is preceded in death by his father and mother Tim and Ruby Overbey and his sister Joyce Hester. He is survived by his wife of 67 yrs. Wilma Lou Overbey, his sons Bobby, Tim and Terry Overbey, their wives Bonita, Lesia, and Lori Overbey, 5 granddaughters and their spouses, Ami & Josh Wallace, Amber & Josh Ross, Ashley & Danny Jones, Terie Overbey, and Alesia & Daniel Stokes, three grandsons and their spouses, Bobby Jr. & Katie Overbey, Charles & Christina Overbey, and William (Tac) Overbey, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He is also survived by his sister Sonja Hensley and her husband Charlie Hensley, his brother-in-law’s Charles Hester, Billy Allen, Dean Allen, and Jim Allen, and sister-in-law Janie Allen.
All memorials may be given to First Baptist Dorchester where Bobby was a member for many years. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to, Kathleen and Sam from Heart to Heart Hospice for allowing us to honor his wishes to remain at home. We would also like to give special thanks to Paul Donoho, and Debbie Spegal from Advantix home care for all of their care and support. And a special thank you to Ami Wallace RN, who kept her Pop comfortable in his last hours. Thank you to all of the friends and family who have come to celebrate the life of Pop through food and fellowship.
