Obituary For Bobby Thompson

Bobby Earl Thompson, 84, of Sherman, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Texas Health Presbyterian/WNJ. The family will receive friends at Dannel Funeral Home Monday evening, February 10th from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Funeral services, with Military Honors, are scheduled for Tuesday, February 11th at 2:00 p.m. in Dannel Funeral Chapel. Pastor Leland Samuelson will officiate. Bobby was born December 3rd, 1929, in Sherman, Texas to Earl Thompson and Amanda Crowell Thompson. He was a longtime member of Fairview Baptist Church. He served 14 years in the United States Army Reserves. He worked for Texas Laundry Service, Hale’s Trailers, Olsen Body Shop and Hitchcock Industries, from which he retired. After these opportunities, Bobby began making toys. He left quite a legacy, with people still inquiring today about the availability of ‘some of his stuff’. Bobby hosted a radio program on KRRV from 1947-1954, and then a television program on KXII in the early 60’s. He was a talented steel guitar player and was the founder of the original Texoma Playboys Country Band. He played steel for Chuck Willis & the Nighthawk Band (formerly The Misfits) for many years. Bobby is survived by his children: Robert Thompson (Tracey), Roger Thompson (D’Awn) and Rhonda Jackson Valle (Juan); step-children: Richard Lynch (Kazan), Russell Lynch, Debra Lynch and Celia Lozano; grandchildren: Shanna Tinsley (J.D), Heather Thompson, Kalea Thompson, Kimberly Longabaugh (Eric), Sgt. Charles Jackson, G2/135 MedEvac; one great-grandchild, MaKayla Tinsley.
