Obituary For Bruce Edward Clark

Bruce Edward Clark, 68, of Sherman, Texas passed away Friday, July 8, 2022.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM on July 31st, at Dannel Funeral Home.

Bruce was born on February 11, 1954 in Sherman to Doris Jean Crowell. As a child he lived with his mother and was cared for by his grandparents and uncle. In 1961, he was adopted as the eldest and beloved son of Don J. Clark when Don and Doris married. As a boy he attended church activities, Sherman schools, was a member of Boy Scout Troop 2, played Bearcat football, and graduated from SHS in 1972. He earned an associates degree from Grayson College.

Bruce married Diane Thompson Clark of Sherman and later joined the US Air Force where he trained to be a medical lab technician. Together they were stationed at Offutt Airforce Base in Omaha,, Nebraska, where their son Jason was born in 1976. After a time in Abilene, the family returned to Sherman where he continued his career as a lab tech. He did this work with care and skill, understanding that being affable was just as important as being accurate. Bruce was trusted by medical professionals and patients alike. He made this his life’s work with no apparent intention to retire and was employed by hospitals, labs, and private practices in Sherman, Denison, Gainesville, and Durant over 30 years.

In addition to his chosen field, Bruce often worked in the family business, Clark’s Agricultural & Industrial Equipment in Sherman. As a third generation Clark to serve area farmers, Bruce learned the rhythms of the harvests, the joy of rain after a dry spell, the many uses of baling wire, and so much more. Bruce was a member of the Sherman Evening Lions and was inducted as a lifelong member in 1993.

Bruce and Diane celebrated 48 years of marriage and, in that time, set out to see the world with favorite destinations including France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. Their compatibility and mutual interest of food, wine, history, and wonders of travel filled their marriage with adventures and friendships.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Mr. Harry Wright and Mrs. Gertrude Wright Smith, and his close uncle Capt. Arthur P. Wright, who died early in the Vietnam War.

Bruce is survived by his wife, son Jason of Oklahoma City, brother Keith Clark and his wife Cheryl of Van Alstyne, sister Leigh-Ellen Clark Romm and husband Doug of Sherman, brother-in-law Brent Thompson and wife Suzanne of Old Lyme, Conn., and sister-in-law Trish Forson and her husband Rob of Plano. He leaves behind six nieces, one nephew, many friends, and his beloved dog and companion Oscar.

I had the honor and privilege of being Bruce's supervisor at LabCorp for the last about 13 years. Of course you know he was awesome. We had our ups and downs, but more ups. We had mutual respect. I am a supervisor that get close to her employees. When they hurt I hurt. I often say I have 35 kids. Bruce was no exception. He would share his wisdom. I have never traveled he would share pictures and stories with me. Bruce would also always talk about Oscar. He loved his dog. As long as I can remember he would go home at lunch to take care of him. I pray for peace and comfort for his family and Oscar. You will forever be in my heart Bruce. I love you Bruce Lisa Douglas

My thoughts and prayers to the Clark Family in their time of loss. I knew Bruce growing up in Sherman at First Baptist Church. His mother was a cousin of one of my uncles, Granville Carpenter. I pray that The Lord's Angels will hold all of you in peace and comfort as Bruce rests comfortably in The Lord's Arms.

I am so Sad to know that our friend Brucie is no longer with us. He was such a gentle, kind, loving and smart person. Always called me kiddo, asking about my grandkids and my family. I saw him a little while ago and was worried about him. We will miss him forever. Praying for his family and friends for Peace and Comfort .

Diane, I am so sorry about Bruce. I remember his kindness toward me and Josh when we were all on the London trip back many years ago. He always stopped to visit with me when we saw each other out and about town. I am thinking about you and Jason and praying for you. Hugs, Deb Williams

Bruce was my friend..... We met at the First Baptist Church more than half a century ago.....goofed around as kids......Graduated from Sherman High together with 444 other "baby boomers" in 1972.....attended Grayson County Jr. College, as it was known then....I was in his wedding to Diane....and then we parted ways toward different lives.....41 years later, I returned to Sherman.....fortunately Bruce and Diane we're here and we reconnected in 2018.....we had some great evenings with a fine glass of wine......I wish there had been more. He will be missed.....
