Obituaries

Carol Joyce Mutz, 83, left for her heavenly home on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at her
home in Sherman.
Carol was born on December 13, 1941 in Lebanon, Missouri, the first of four children
born to Dean and Iolene (Spoonemore) Pendergraft. She graduated from U.S. Grant
High School in Oklahoma City, and she and her husband Richard celebrated their 50 th
wedding anniversary in September 2023. She was a creative, joyful, hard-working
wife, mother, friend, counselor, and helper who enjoyed everything from hot rods and
motorcycles to crochet and crafts. She was a long-time member of Grayson Bible
Baptist Church, and will be always be remembered by many friends and hundreds of
students who knew her as teacher at Grayson Christian Academy (now School) and
brought joy to her life as her larger extended family.
Mrs. Mutz was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Norval Gaines of
Oklahoma City, and her brothers James Thomas (J.T.) and Robert D. (Bob)
Pendergraft.
Carol is survived by her husband Richard Mutz, and children Michael (Valerie)
Gaines, Renee (Don) Karr, James (Karen) Mutz, and Matthew (Stephanie) Mutz. She
is also survived by her brother Stanley Pendergraft, ten grandchildren (Heather
Chesnet, Preston Gaines, Heath Haynes, Scott Sauer, Tairyn Mutz, Dylan Mutz, Seth
Mutz, Adam Mutz, Faith Mutz, and Ariel Mutz), and six great-grandchildren
(Annabelle and Elizah Chesnet, Maverick Haynes, Raylee Mutz, Luke Valdez, and
Penelope Talamentes.)
Pallbearers will be Scott Sauer, Heath Haynes, Preston Gaines, Dylan Mutz, Seth
Mutz, and Adam Mutz.
Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Dannel Funeral Home,
802 Walnut St, Sherman, TX, 75090.
A Celebration of Mrs Mutz’ life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025
at Grayson Bible Baptist Church, 4400 US-82, Sherman, TX, 75090. Rev. Roy
Webster will officiate, and burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements
are by Dannel Funeral Home.
