Obituary For Carolyn Louise Hughes Toland

With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Carolyn Louise Hughes Toland.

Heaven was ready for your beautiful smile, your lively spirit, your big heart, and that unforgettable personality of yours.

Carolyn was born on May 6, 1947, to Ida Mae Estelle Hughes and Ira Hughes in Vivian, Louisiana. After a brief illness, she went to be with Jesus on October 23, 2026.

Mom cherished her family. She shared 50 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Jim, building a life rooted in God, love, commitment, partnership, and countless memories. Together, they created a family that became her greatest blessing and proudest legacy.

Her family was her world, and the love she poured into each generation will continue to bind them together for years to come. Her children and grandchildren were among her greatest joys, and she gave of herself generously to those she loved. She was our source of strength, comfort, wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. Whether she was sharing a laugh, offering advice, praying, or simply being there when we needed her, she made sure we knew we were loved. Mom taught us that life was meant to be lived, love was meant to be shared, and laughter was one of life's greatest gifts. She showed us how to be strong through difficult times, how to appreciate the little things, and how to keep going even when life did not go as planned. Her courage, resilience, and zest for life will continue to inspire us for generations to come.

She was a real woman with a big personality, her own opinions, a little sass, and a spirit that kept us on our toes. She had her own special way of doing things, and we wouldn't have wanted her any other way. Those funny moments, unforgettable sayings, family stories, and memories that still bring a smile to our faces are treasures we will carry forever.

You gave us roots, strength, laughter, and a lifetime of reasons to be grateful.

Although our hearts are broken by her passing, we choose to celebrate the beautiful life she lived. We will remember her laughter, cherish her stories, smile at the memories, and hold tightly to the love she gave so freely.

We will miss her presence more than words can express, but her spirit will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, family, and everyone whose life she touched. You will live on in every family gathering, every shared laugh, every story told, and every act of love passed down through the generations.

You were deeply loved, you lived vibrantly, and you will be missed beyond measure. Your life was a gift, your laughter was a blessing, and your love is a legacy that will never die.

Carolyn leaves behind her loving husband of 50 years, Jim Toland, who cherished her, and her four beloved daughters: Diana Thompson, Becky (Shawn) Davis, Tracie (Sergio) Leal, and Barbie Wright

Her legacy of love continues through her 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy and meaning to her life.

Her family will forever carry her love, her lessons, her laughter, and her beautiful spirit.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas, on Friday, November 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

My sister, Carolyn, was my first friend. She made life interesting. She talked but she knew how to keep secrets. She is now with her mother and father and at rest. My life will never be the same. She was a unique and loving spirit. She spread her wings and created a huge family whom she adored. 🔥Your light will always burn in our hearts. Sheila
