Obituary For Catherine LuCinda McCollum

Catherine Lucinda McCollum (Cindy), 71 of Sherman Texas passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on December 21, 2020. Cindy was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 2, 1949 (Groundhog Day) she was the only child of Prescott and Myra Wiggins. After graduating high school in Livonia, Michigan she worked briefly as a hairdresser before starting a career in the Insurance industry for 50 years, most recently working for REM and Tri-Star Insurance Companies in Dallas as a claims assistant. Cindy married Fred Sly in October 1975 and they lived in many places across the United States, moving to North Texas in 1986. In 1992 her first marriage ended and she met and married Winston McCollum, a native Texan on May 1, 1993 in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a Detroit girl growing up in the 60’s, she shared Winston’s enthusiasm for 60’s & 70’s Detroit muscle cars and they enjoyed many years of participating in the old car hobby. Cindy’s other passion were her dogs who she treated like people. Although she never had any children of her own, she was a loving stepmother to Winston’s children for many years. Cindy is survived by her husband Winston and stepchildren Ross McCollum of Wylie, Texas and Brenna McCollum of Austin, Texas. Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Prescott and Myra Wiggins. Per her request, she will be cremated, and a celebration of her life will be held in the summer of 2021, details to be announced later.

Cindy,as I write this you have been gone from my life for two years and 223 days. I have been so heartbroken that it has taken me till now to gather the strength to write these words....Cindy, meeting you was the luckiest most wonderful thing that has ever happened or ever will happen to me. I miss you every single moment when I am awake and I dream about you at night. My world shattered when you suddenly left and it will remain so until we meet again in Heaven. When I pass on, be on the lookout for me....I'll be the guy wearing a car shirt and carrying a single red rose....until we meet again, take good care of Scott, Valerie, Ollie, Fletchie, Rocky, and Vernie........I love you and miss you with all my heart...Winston
