Obituary For CB Barker
CB "Buck" Barker, 98, lifelong resident of Sherman, passed from this life Friday, May 29, 2015, at Hillcrest House in Dallas, TX. His family will receive friends at Dannel Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday evening, June 1st. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 2nd at 2:00 p.m. in Dannel Funeral Chapel with Pastor Leland Samuelson officiating assisted by Buck's grandson, Greg Blakey. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. CB "Buck" Barker was born in Fannin County on December 9, 1916, the youngest son of H.E. and Myrtle Kelly Barker. He attended school in Ector, Texas, and Austin College in Sherman. He married Lillie Mae Cates of Ely, Texas on July 7, 1936. They moved to Sherman in 1937, then to Sulphur Springs, Texas in 1939, and moved to Honey Grove, Texas in 1941. They moved back to Sherman in 1948. Mr. Barker was employed by Babcock Brothers Auto Supply for twelve years. He served thirty-five years for the S.E. Hyman Company of Fremont, Ohio and worked for Dannel Funeral Home of Sherman, Texas for more than 20 years. Mr. Barker was a member of Key Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 60 years and taught Sunday School classes for twenty-three years, was President of the Methodist Men's Club, chairman of the Official Board, President of the Golden Keys club, President of Key Bible class and a member of the Board of Trustees. He was Past Master and a seventy year member of the Masonic Lodge, served for 68 years as Past Patron of the Eastern Star and a sixty two year member of the York Rite of the Masonic Lodge. Buck's hobbies and pastimes were doing good for those in need, fishing, and hunting. His love for church, family and friends was the greatest aim in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lillie Mae Cates Barker, and daughter Carolyn Kay Blakey. He is survived by 2 children: Don Barker and wife Jan of Mesquite, TX, Vicki Owens and husband, Rick of Hurst, TX, son-in-law, Don Blakey and wife, Vickie of Sherman, TX; five grandchildren: Lauri Hodges of Monroe, LA, Jeff Barker and wife, Shoshanna of Richardson, TX, Greg Blakey and wife, Kelly of Murphy, TX, Blake Owens and wife Maxine of Dallas, TX and Allie Rennick and husband, Jarod of Plano, TX; and 6 great-grandchildren.
