Obituaries

Charles F. Greene went to meet his savior January 5, 2021, at the age of 90 years, 2 months, 28 days.

Funeral services will be held on Friday January 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at West Sherman Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas. Pastor Danny Wood and Sam Greene will officiate. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided The United States Air Force and Masonic Rites will be led by members of the Travis Masonic Lodge #117. The family will greet friends Friday January 8, 2021 between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM at West Sherman Baptist Church.

Charles was born October 6, 1930, in Carlisle, Kentucky to Heber Richard Greene and Ruby Arle Greene. He graduated from high school in Hillsboro, Ohio, in 1948, and joined the Air Force January 4, 1951. He served honorably for four years and received the “Good Conduct Medal” and the “National Defense Medal.” While in the Service, he attended Penn State College USAF.

Charles was honorably discharged from Ethan Allen AFB, Vermont, December 14, 1954, and returned to Hillsboro.

Charles pursued a career in retail management for many years and retired from Kroger Company April 20, 1996, after 28 years of service.

On November 5, 1983, he married Wanda M. O’Donnell in Sherman and they celebrated 37 wonderful years. Charles accepted Christ at an early age and has been an active member of West Sherman Baptist Church for many years. He was also a member of Lions Club International, and a member in good standing in Travis Masonic Lodge #117, Sherman, Texas; and a Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star #183.

Survivors include his loving wife Wanda Greene and three sons: Michael Greene (and wife Brenda) of Mount Orab, Ohio; Samuel Greene (and wife Lisa) of Cincinnati, Ohio; Scott Edward Greene (and wife Jana) of Tyler, Texas; step daughters: Patty Orr and Debbie Arcelay.

Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law Vicky Greene and Patsy Greene: also, four sisters: Martha Kitchen (and husband Howard) of Marietta, Ohio; Patricia Clark (and husband Wayne) of Salem, Ohio; Carol Dee Rogers (and husband Duane) of Hillsboro, Ohio; and Shirley Vance (and husband Ralph) of Hillsboro, Ohio.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles F. Greene, Jr. and three brothers: Heber Richard Greene, Jr.; Donald Reese Greene; and William Kenny Greene.

Pallbearers will be Mike Hastings, Steve Williams, Jerry Burke, Gene Word, Jeff Wyatt and Tommy Huntsman.
