Obituary For Charles Robert Jewell
Charles “Chuck” R. Jewell, 88, of Colorado Springs and most recently of Sherman, TX, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020.
He was born in Denver, Colorado, on December 14, 1931 to Charles “Bud” and Thelma Jewell. He married Nita Hazel Carter on September 2,1961.
Chuck was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Navy from November 1950-September 1954 (on board the USS Chara). He later worked as a Deputy Sheriff in Colorado Springs during the 1970’s and he also worked as an Over-The-Road truck driver for over forty years.
His main passion in life was auto racing of any kind. He enjoyed watching it and was a race-car driver himself for a time, racing in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. He is most definitely burning rubber in Heaven!
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Thelma, his wife Nita and sister, Nancy Lehman, as well as by many great buddies.
Chuck (also known as Dad, Grandpa and Poppy) will be deeply missed by his sons Rob (of Sherman) and Rick (of Aurora, CO), daughter-in-law Suzette, grandchildren Ryan and Kennedy and great-granddaughter Ryleigh, as well as by other extended family and friends. Anyone who knew him loved him and enjoyed his sense of humor and the stories he would tell about the war and the trouble he could get into with his comrades.
The family of Chuck wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Texoma Medical Center ICU and Covid Unit for all their genuine care and continual communications during this most recent difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date due to the restrictions of the Coronavirus and the safety of all those we cherish.
Condolences
