Obituary For Charlynne Elliott

Jimmie Charlynne Elliott, 81, of Sherman, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 27, 2014. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1st in Dannel Funeral Chapel. Pastor Christopher Owens of Harvest Oaks Church in Allen, TX, will officiate, assisted by Pastor Leland Samuelson of Sherman. Interment will follow immediately afterward in West Hill Cemetery. Charlynne was born December 3, 1932 in Grayson County, to Charles William and Jimmie Mackey Calhoun. She began her education in the Sherman Public Schools, graduating from Sherman High School in 1950. Next was a four year enrollment at North Texas State College in Denton – now the University of North Texas – where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, graduating in 1954. Not one to waste any time, three months later she began what would become a nearly forty-year career right back in the district where it all started, retiring from Sherman Independent School District in the spring of 1990. Nearly everywhere she went, Charlynne would see people she recognized. She often said to those in her company, “I taught So many Sherman folks…”. She eventually completed her Master of Library Science Degree, graduating from East Texas State University in Commerce – now Texas A&M University/Commerce – in August 1965. Charlynne was married to Jack Elliott in June of 1955, and they enjoyed thirty wonderful years of marriage before his death in 1985. They were actively involved in myriad organizations, devoting much time in service to their community. In recent years, Charlynne was especially active in the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary – Post #2772 of Sherman, had served tirelessly in State and National officer positions for the Texas Silver Haired Legislature, and was a fifty year member of the Carpenters Chapter #183-Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Elks Lodge for over 30 years, had served as treasurer for Friendship Cemetery Association, and was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. Charlynne was predeceased by her loving husband, Jack Elliott; and her parents, Charles William and Jimmie Calhoun. Among those left to cherish Charlynne’s memory are her sister, Jane Millender of Allen, TX; her nieces: Elizabeth Grant (Ross) of Wylie, TX, Marsha Adams (Dick) of Lawton, OK, and Debbie Widdig (Jay) of Allen, TX; great-nieces/nephews: Gary Grant (Katherine) of North Little Rock, AR, Gina Scheer (Zach) of Lewisville, TX, Katie Owens (Christopher) of Allen, TX, Jon Widdig of Dallas, TX, Abby Bowles of Oklahoma City, OK, Brent Elliott Bowles of Norman, OK; great-great-nephew Elliott Grant of North Little Rock, AR; cousins Bill Lucas of Baytown, TX and June A. Lucas of Sherman, TX. While floral remembrances are accepted and appreciated, the family would be especially honored by memorial donations to any of the following organizations: VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary, Post #2772 1707 Baker Rd., Sherman, TX-75090; Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, TX-75219; Friendship Cemetery Association, 498 Choctaw Estates Cr., Sherman, TX-75092; Reba’s Ranch House, 5036 Reba Dr., Denison, TX-75020; Home Hospice of Grayson County, 505 W.
