Obituary For Cleatis Moore

Cleatis Ray Moore, 81, of Sherman, passed from this life Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Denison Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Denison. The family received friends last evening at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14th, in Dannel Funeral Chapel. Larry Owens, former chaplain for the Sherman Fire Department, will officiate. Interment - with Masonic Rites - will follow immediately afterward in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Moore was born January 16, 1934, in Paris, TX, to Willie and Ellee Jernigan Moore. As a young man, he served his country proudly in the United States Army. In 1966, he married Greta Cummings, in Paris, TX. Mr. Moore was a Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Travis Street Lodge #117 in Sherman. He was a Baptist. Baseball was always a favorite with Mr. Moore. He coached Little League teams, and loved watching baseball, from the Grayson County Vikings to the Texas Rangers. He was also quite talented in woodworking and crafts. Mr. Moore was a firefighter, retiring from the Sherman Fire Department with over 25 years of service. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Billy, Wendell and Archie; and sisters: Ruth, Joyce and Dorothy. Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Glenda; children: Robert Cummings, of Sherman, Ronald Cummings and wife Debbie, of Sherman, Derrell Cummings, of Southmayd, and Lisa Key, of Paris, TX; five grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be the Honor Guard of the Sherman Fire Department.

    Greta and Family, W just got in from vacation and spotted this. So sad for your loss. As kids growing up around the fire dept, we all thought so much of Ray and his gentle spirit and big smile were great assets we treasured. It was especially fun for me to learn of your neice who went to college with me in Springfield, MO! Our thoughts and prayers are with you!     To the Moore Family....Mr. Moore attended so many Grayson College baseball games. I was the secretary in the Athletic's office for many years. He would come by and get a roster and talk about the team. We were always so happy to see him and grateful that he supporte our team. What a great man...you are very fortunate. Pam Hurley

    Greta and family, We are so sorry for the passing of a generous, kind, loving man. Elizabeth, Joey and I remember him when we lived there on College St. He was always there for anyone that needed him. My youngest son has the same birthday as Ray. He lives in our hearts and memories. God bless.
