Obituary For Cynthia Shea Goosen
Cynthia Shea Goosen, 55, of Sherman, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at her residence in Sherman, Texas. On September 10, 1960, Cyndy was born to Carol Ann Stover Shea and Dr. Thomas R. Shea in Dallas, Texas. She lived in Sherman for most of her life returning to raise her family and practice law, always valuing the relationships and bonds it provided. Cyndy graduated from Sherman High School and continued on to graduate Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts from Southern Methodist University in 1982. She then went on to the Dedman School of Law at SMU where she earned many honors including Magna Cum Laude, Order of the Coif, receiving her Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1985. Cyndy approached her legal career in the same manner she lived life, with passion and integrity. She began the practice of law in 1985 with the law firm of Cowles & Thompson ultimately becoming a partner in that firm. It was there that she first learned the art of advocacy and zealous representation of her clients, most especially, the medical profession she loved and served throughout her career. In 1992, Cyndy became a partner at Cooper & Scully, building and maintaining its Sherman office. She loved the practice of law and brought to it the highest ethical standards, civility and decency. During her career she received many honors including selection as a “super lawyer” by Texas Monthly’s Super Lawyers Edition for many years and induction into the American Board of Trial Advocates. Yet her greatest honors likely were the admiration and respect she received from countless judges, colleagues, adversaries, clients and jurors throughout North Texas. Cyndy charmed them all with her sharp-tongued and intelligent wit, laughter, authenticity, and beautiful blue Irish eyes. Her love of the legal practice was surpassed only by her love for her family. She was preceded in death by her father Dr. Thomas R. Shea; sister Mary Veronica Shea; grandparents J.L. and Mary Shea and Joseph and Rita Stover. She is survived by her husband Guy Goosen, children Brian Nicholas and Christopher Thomas Goosen, mother Carol Shea, all of Sherman, Texas; sister Kerry Kathryn Shea Lanzone and husband Joe of St. Simons Island, GA; brother Tommy Shea and wife Sheila of Sherman. Aunts & Uncles - Mary Shea Perry and husband Brendan of Holliston, MA; Paul Shea and wife Lois of Holliston, MA. Nieces & Nephews - Valerie Kathryn Lanzone, Joseph Anthony Lanzone III and Jillian Grace Lanzone. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Pallbearers are Cary McDougal, Adam LeCrone, Garrison Davis, Hunter Davis, Kevin Crick, and Stephen Sanderson. The legal and medical communities throughout the state of Texas are honorary pallbearers. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremy Myers officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, Texas. Visitation will be at Dannel Funeral Home on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 5:30 until 7 p.m.
