Obituary For Daniel "Dan" Abraham Combs
Daniel Abraham Combs slipped peacefully into eternity at home on the evening of March 26, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by the family he cherished above all. Born on September 17, 1939, in Enid, Oklahoma, Daniel (Dan) lived a life defined by an unwavering commitment to those he held dear.
From an early age, Dan was drawn to the skies. He learned to fly as a teenager and later served with honor in both the Air Force and Marine Reserve for a decade. That same determination guided him through a distinguished career with Braniff Airlines and US Air, where he rose to the rank of captain, a role that reflected his steady, capable nature. Though he found joy in the skies, his true anchor was on the ground, in the embrace of his family.
To Dan, family was everything. He built a life rich with love alongside his wife, Melody Christine Combs, and took immense pride in his children: sons Brett Combs and Dustin Combs, as well as Danise Fairchild and Earnest Westfall from earlier chapters of his life. His grandchildren Alexandra Smith, Corbin Combs, Allison Dillman, Max Westfall, and great-grandchildren John Dillman Jr., Daxtin Smith, Aurora Smith, and Kinslee Smith.
Dan’s heart extended beyond people to the animals he adored. Over the years, he welcomed many dogs and a few special cats into his home, treating them as cherished companions. His generosity shone through in his support for the SPCA and ARF House of Whitesboro.
A steadfast Christian, Dan drew strength from his faith, often speaking with quiet hope of reuniting with loved ones in Heaven. His life was a testament to the power of family and the grace of a man who lived with purpose and love. He looked forward to the day when all those he treasured would join him in eternity, together in the presence of the Lord.
Dan leaves behind an enduring legacy of unwavering devotion, etched deeply into the hearts of his beloved family, who will carry his love forward through generations. A private family celebration of his life will be held soon; a poignant and fitting tribute to a man whose greatest joy and proudest achievement was the family he nurtured.
