Obituary For David Alan Strasner

David Alan Strasner, 76, of Sherman, Texas, passed away in the early hours of October 31, 2025, at his home with the love of his life, Sherri, by his side. While we lost the best husband, dad and Poppy on earth, God welcomed one of His most faithful servants into Heaven. David was born July 24, 1949, in Gorman, Texas, to Al and Lurline Strasner. He spent his formative years in DeLeon, Texas, attending public schools and First Baptist Church, where, as the only son of educators, he was involved in numerous activities. He earned a degree in accounting at Howard Payne University, where he was also a trainer in the athletic department. It was at Howard Payne that David met Sherri and began a love story that included 55 years of marriage, two children, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

David and Sherri moved to Sherman in 1978. Soon thereafter they joined Fairview Baptist Church where they have been faithful members for 46 years. David was a deacon for over 40 years and served on just about every committee imaginable. He loved his church and was a gifted Sunday school teacher. Throughout his adult life, David taught the Bible to all ages including high school, college and the Fellowship Class he had led for the past two decades and loved so dearly.

David enjoyed sports. He was a diehard Sherman Bearcat and DeLeon Bearcat fan. You could find him on any gameday in the fall watching football and tracking his fantasy football teams.

Above all, he loved God and his family. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by his family grilling ribeyes and eating shrimp (assuming there was plenty of cocktail sauce). He was loved deeply and will be missed.

David is survived by his wife, Sherri; children Lori Walker (Sam) and Jeff Strasner (Tiffany); Forever remembered and cherished as Poppy to grandchildren Kaylee Coulson (Turner), Todd Walker, Kamryn Walker, Kassidy Walker, Charlotte Strasner, Caroline Strasner and Will Strasner; and one great grandchild Walker Coulson. He is also survived by one sister, Charlotte McDonald.

However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him — 1 Corinthians 2:9

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 4th at Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman. Visitation is from 5 p.m. -7 p.m. on Monday, November 3rd at Dannel Funeral Home.

Dave was a wonderful man and boss. I worked for him at Folgers. My son had to have surgery late one night and Dave came to the hospital and prayed for him. He was so kind.
