Obituary For David Robert Hopkins

David Robert Hopkins, loving son age 65, passed away on April 7, 2022 at Midland County Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas.

Arrangements are by Dannel Funeral Home.

A .graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13 at the West Hill Cemetery in Sherman, Texas. In case of inclement weather the service will be held in Hopkins Chapel at the First United Methodist Church, 401 North Elm Street in Sherman. The Reverend Denise Peckham and The Reverend Joe Ed Goolsby of First United Methodist Church will officiate.

David was born on December 20, 1956, the son of Arthur Gorman Hopkins Jr. and Evelyn Hillhouse Hopkins. He graduated from Sherman Public Schools, graduated from Grayson College, and was in his last semester at Stephen F. Austin University when ever-independent David called to say he had quit school to “go to the oil patch.” He made a career in the oil industry and always enjoyed the thrill of dangerous work. He worked as Driller and as Tool Pusher and was very good and dependable at what ever he did. He was a very hard worker and loved hard physical work. In college he was studying Forestry and Ranch Management and would have been very good in that field also.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Lana, father, Arthur Hopkins, Jr. and sister, Elizabeth Hopkins Henderson.

He is survived by his son Casey Hopkins; daughter, Chanda Hopkins and her two children, Jazmyne and Christian: brother, Dr. Brian Hopkins and husband, Dr. Michael McNett; and his mother, Evelyn Hopkins.

Memorials in David’s memory may be given to The Music Ministry at the First United Methodist Church, 401 North Elm Street, Sherman, Texas 75090, or a favorite charity of your choice.
