David Randall 'Randy' Whitney, 49, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014, at Wilson N Jones Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, December 22nd, at Dannel Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 23rd, in Dannel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow immediately afterward in West Hill Cemetery. Randy was born July 23, 1965 in San Diego, CA, to A. Ray and Sandra Schaaff Whitney. He attended school in Whitesboro, graduating in 1983. Randy was a mechanical genius, and it was often said there was no motor or engine malfunction that he couldn't solve. He lived for high-performance hot rods and speed. Racing was truly in his blood. A tragic automobile accident in 1996 left Randy severely incapacitated, requiring total personal assistance. He had lived for the last several years at Texoma Healthcare & Rehabilitation Facility in Sherman. Randy loved watching movies, and a favorite was 'Cool Hand Luke'. He also enjoyed attending the church services provided each Sunday in the nursing facility. He especially enjoyed the music. Preceded in death by his father, Randy is survived by his mother, Sandra Whitney; son, David Whitney of Bowie; daughter, Heather Rae Whitney of Bowie; brothers, Alfred Jason Whitney and wife Shelley of Sherman, William Scott Whitney and wife Deborah of Whitesboro, and Weldon Lott 'Tedo' Whitney and wife Shelly of Mansfield; six grandchildren, and numerous extended family and dear friends. The Whitney family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the doctors, nurses and support staff of Texoma Healthcare for their many years of dedicated care for Randy.
