Obituary For Dewey Wright

Dewey L. Wright, 87, of Farmers Branch, passed away Monday, October 20th, at Baylor Medical Center of Carrollton. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23rd in Dannel Funeral Chapel in Sherman, TX. Pastor Leland Samuelson will officiate. Masonic Rites will be offered by the Travis St. Lodge # 117 of Sherman. Interment with military honors will follow immediately afterward in Friendship Cemetery. The family will return to the funeral home after interment for a time of visitation. Dewey was born in Grayson County November 13, 1926 to Harry C. and Bertha Holloway Wright. After he graduated from Sherman High School, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his discharge, he graduated from Austin College with a Bachelors Degree in business. Only a few weeks later, on August 30, 1952, he married Owanna Grigsby. He retired from Atlantic Richfield Co. - which later became British Petroleum - after 38 years of service. During the early years of his tenure with ARCO, he spent over nine months in Alaska working on the Alaska Pipeline. Over the years he promoted into the accounting department, and spent the last several years of his employment as an auditor. Dewey was an avid hunter and fisherman. His favorite target was 'whatever was in season!' He was particularly fond of striped bass fishing on Lake Texoma. He and his brothers built a cabin near Grandpappy Point, with materials from a barracks building on Perrin AFB. That cabin became a favorite for the entire family, with many weekends and holidays being spent there and abundant memories being made. The cabin still stands, providing another generation of Dewey's family a treasured getaway. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Allen Wright (Teeny) and H.C. Wright (Booty), and sisters Annie Laughlin and Peggy Cranfill. He is survived by his loving wife Owanna, his daughters: Robin Vaughn of Arlington, Suzan Schroeder and husband Donny of Beaumont, Debra Price of Whitesboro and Patty Wright of Whitesboro; brother Harold Wright of Sherman; sister Mary Ruth Larabee of Sherman; brother-in-law Leon Grigsby of Bells; sister-in-law Mary Ann Wright of Sherman; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. Online condolences may be registered at www.dannelfuneralhome.com
