Obituary For Dewitt Greer
Dewitt Talmadge “Buddy” Greer, 75, went to be with the Lord on January 31st, 2016 at his home in Pottsboro, Texas after a long battle with cancer. Born in Greenville, Texas November 23, 1940, Buddy was a graduate of the Sherman High class of ‘59 and a Golden Roo member of the Austin College class of ‘63. He married Diana Greer on August 23, 1983. Buddy and Diana worked together in Richardson, TX running an insurance agency, the Atrium Executive Suites, and then the Yacht-o-Fun Charters on Lake Texoma. Career accomplishments include earning a CLU designation and attaining membership in the life insurance Million Dollar Roundtable. He and Diana retired to their home in Pottsboro. Some of Buddy’s favorite things were traveling, listening to his wide music collection and sunsets on the lake. Buddy especially took pride in keeping in touch with his Bearcat classmates and organizing SHS ‘59 class reunions. Buddy, before his move to Lake Texoma, was very active in community and civic involvement. He is a former Rotarian, Lion, Jaycee of the Year (in Texas and California) and a state winner of “Speak Up” of the Year in California. He also competed nationally in that event. He was very active in the City of Richardson where he raised his children and is past chairman of the Parks and Recreation Board. He also served as Chairman of Richardson YMCA as well as one of its sustaining campaigns and was also a "Coach of the Year". Buddy is survived by his wife, Diana; three sons, Lee, Andy, and Russell; three step sons, Steven, Bradley, and Kevin Sims; granddaughter Katherine Greer; step grandchildren Austin and Conner Sims of Southlake, TX, Lillian, Pippa, and Roland Sims of Austin ; brother Gus Greer of Sherman. He was preceded in death by his parents Dewitt Sr. and Lucile Greer. Buddy is also survived by his previous wife, Jerri Jeffcoats Helfman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org). A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the Methodist Prothro Center on Lake Texoma at 3:30pm, Saturday February 13, 2016.
