Obituary For Donald Barker

Donald Cates Barker, age 79, passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2020 in Mesquite, Texas. Don was born on January 1, 1941 in Paris, Texas to C.B. “Buck” and Lillie Mae Barker. On July 14, 1961, he married Janice Kay Burleson, of Sherman, Texas. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1959 and from Austin College in 1963. After graduation, he moved to Dallas Texas and started his career as a Computer Systems Manager at Texas Power and Light. His career took him to Johnson & Johnson, Honeywell, Premier Designs, and Mattress Giant where he retired in 2011.

Don, also known as “Papaw”, is a man that exemplifies many traits: funny, hard-working, great listener, caring, determined and so much more. When you needed advice, he was the one to seek. He loved his family more than anything in the world and was always his grandkids #1 fan!

He is survived by his wife, Jan Barker; daughter, Lauri Hodges of, Frisco; Son, Jeffrey Barker, of Mesquite; Sister, Vicki Owens and husband Rick, of Plano; Brother-in-law, Danny Burleson and wife Stephanie, of Sherman; four grandchildren, Lauren Lowrey of Prosper; Austin Hodges and wife Kirsten of McKinney; Jade Barker and Candice Barker of Eugene, Oregon, and 2 great grandchildren, Kayson Hodges & Lillian Lowrey. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kay Blakey of Sherman, Texas.

Services will be held at Dannel Funeral Home 302 S Walnut St, Sherman, TX 75090 on Saturday November 14, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will be held on Saturday November 14, 2020 at the funeral home starting at 1:00 p.m.. Burial service will follow at West Hill Cemetery 1304 W Lamar St, Sherman, TX 75092.

    Jan, Laurie, and Jeff, I am very sorry to hear of Don's passing. He was a good man. The times I had the opportunity to spend summers at the lake with him and the families are cherished times I will never forget. Missed but never forgotten. God bless ! Love David Nixon
