Obituary For Donald Edward Dannenberg

Donald E. Dannenberg, 90, of Sherman, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Focus Care nursing home in Sherman after a long and valiant battle with respiratory complications.

A native of Edwardsville, Illinois, Don was born on June 22, 1932, to Alvin and Esther (Schaefer) Dannenberg. He attended school in Edwardsville and joined the United States Air Force in 1952, serving all over the country, and he was a veteran of the wars in Korea and Vietnam. Don retired from the Air Force in 1972, having achieved the rank of master sergeant and earning multiple campaign and service decorations. Among his awards were the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, eight Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, United Nations Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Air Force Longevity Service Medal. Following his distinguished military career, Don became a salesman until his retirement.

Don married the love of his life, Norma Johnson, on November 7, 1954, and they were together 67 years. He and Norma joined Cavalry Baptist Church and although they travelled the world and country together, they always returned to their beloved church.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Wilber, daughter Deborah, and grandson Charles. He is survived by his wife Norma; granddaughter Stephanie and her husband David Nipper; grandson David Morris and his wife Kim; great granddaughters Stacy, Heather, Kathrine, and Marah; and great grandsons Caleb, Kolbie, and Dakota.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Calvary Baptist Church, Focus Care, and Hospice Plus.

Visitation will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, at Dannel Funeral Home, 302 South Walnut Street, Sherman, and graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on September 26 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, 5805 Texoma Parkway, Sherman. Associate Pastor Sid Hunter of Victory Missionary Baptist will officiate the service. Honorary pallbearers will be David Morris, David Nipper, Derrick Boffering, Tommy Dannenberg, Bob Dannenberg, and Stephanie Nipper.
