Obituary For Doris Ruth Hayes
Services for Doris Ruth Hayes, 89, who passed away at her home on Friday, December 10, 2021 will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Western Heights Church of Christ in Sherman at 10:00 AM. Pastor Welton Stoker will officiate. The family will greet friends on Thursday, December 16, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Dannel Funeral Home. The family will have a private interment at a later date. Doris was born on December 20, 1931 in Cleburne, Texas to Luther and Babe Johnson. She was one of 6 children and loved working on the family farm. She was raised and attended Cleburne schools and graduated from Cleburne High School in 1949. She married Charlie Owens and they had 3 children: Dan, Donny, and Delisa. Doris worked at Kaiser for many years before retiring. She also loved antiques and turned that passion into her second career in estate sales and owning Elm House Antiques in Sherman. She married her “sweetheart” Thurman Ralph “Red” Hayes on December 14, 1973 and they shared 43 wonderful years together before his passing in 2016.
Doris loved her church and was a life long Church of Christ member, she was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, she was an amazing grandmother and great grandmother to her 8 grandchildren and especially her 26 greatgrandchildren that knew her as “Memaw” and her great great grandchild. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Doris is preceded in death by husband Red, her parents, brother Butch, and sisters Denise and Sister. She is survived by her children: Dan Owens, Sr. and wife Lori of Celina, Donny Owens of Waco, and Delisa Nelson and Mark Mask of Sherman; brother Kenneth Johnson of Lindale, and sister Donna Haker and husband Troyce of Gunter; and all of her grandbabies.
