Obituary For Dorothy McAllister

Dorothy Pauline Slack McAllister passed away on August 1, 2021, at Good Samaritan Village in Denton, Texas at the age of 100. She was born on January 28, 1921, in Seymour, Texas to June and Bessie Slack. Her family moved to Whitesboro, Texas where she graduated from Whitesboro High School. She moved to Sherman, Texas and was a bookkeeper for Grayson Millwork and Supply. She married Garth A. McAllister on June 9, 1940. They started their own business, and she kept the books while keeping her job at Grayson Millwork and Supply. They had two children, Milton and Donna. She continued the bookkeeping while raising their children. She and Garth were married for 59 and a half years. She was a member of the Sherman Service League in the 1960’s.

They moved to Lake Kiowa, Texas in 1972, where Dorothy spent hours on the golf course, and even had a hole in one! She was a member of the Lake Kiowa Ladies Golf Association. She had many friends that she golfed with, played cards and Scrabble with, and traveled with. She was fortunate to be able to travel the world and see so many new places. She is survived by her son, Milton, and his wife Gail, of Sherman, Texas; daughter, Donna Puyear, of Denton, Texas; grandchildren, Missy McAllister Kerr and husband Martel, Casey McAllister, Christopher Puyear, and Jason Puyear and wife Lauren. She leaves great-grandchildren, Samantha Kerr, Tyler McAllister, Gage McAllister, Lily Puyear and Hazel Puyear. Her great-great-grandchildren, Brielle, Chael, Mekhi, Maverik, and Tate. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Glenn, brother, Charles, and sister, Erma Price.

Dorothy was a kind and soft-spoken lady and was the most loving, caring, honest and generous person to everyone. She loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Graveside Service will be held at Collinsville Cemetery in Collinsville, Texas, on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10:30 am. Rev. Joe Ed Goolsby from First United Methodist Church in Sherman will officiate. There will be no family night.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in her honor to Ann’s Haven Visiting Nurses Association, 325 W. McKinney St., Unit 101, Denton, Texas 76201.
