Obituary For Dovie Nell Halliburton- Hogan

Dovie Nell Halliburton-Hogan entered eternal life on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024. Born Dovie Nell Reynolds on September 7, 1933, to Delmer Z Reynolds and Nellie Helms-Reynolds, Dovie was born in a one-bedroom cabin behind her grandparents’ Bells, TX home. One of Dovie’s first memories was at age three, carrying a food tray to her sick grandmother. Also at age three, Dovie was blessed with a baby brother, Buddy Allen, who sadly only lived a short time, then at age five she was blessed with a baby sister who her parents let her help name Mary Katherine. Prior to starting school Dovie made every move her father did on the farm. She started first grade at Bells Elementary School, moved to South Gale School in the sixth grade and Sherman High School in the 9th grade. While in Sherman, Dovie joined Forest Ave Baptist Church and started serving the Lord. The family later moved to Bells, TX, where Dovie graduated from high school in 1950. An interesting thing happened during her graduation ceremony, a terrible thunderstorm knocked out the power in the auditorium and her parents would not let her stay for the prom, but instead go home and get in the cellar.

Dovie met George Halliburton while in high school, marrying on December 30, 1951. George served in the Air Force, taking the couple to Oklahoma City, then upon his discharge they relocated back to Texas and started their family. George and Dovie had two boys, Larry and Terry Halliburton. Always hard working, Dovie earned her dental certification and worked for 17 years. While raising their family, George and Dovie bought a store in Fink, TX, making it a restaurant, motel, dry boat stalls and car wash, and Dovie served as mayor of Fink, TX for 12 years. After leaving there and George passing away, Dovie married William Robbins and moved back to Bells. Bill only lived a short time, and Dovie stayed committed to her work and serving Christ, which led her on a memorable trip to Israel. Several years later, Dovie was reunited with her old classmate, Richard Hogan, later marrying and making their home in Texas and Alaska. The couple adventurously traveled by motor home or Richard piloting their small personal plane, and spent their time enjoying square dancing and playing games with friends, finally retiring in Hope, AK, to operate a small store and mine for gold. Everywhere they went Dovie spent time in service to God.

Dovie is survived by her sister Mary Groner, two sons with George Halliburton; Terry and Larry Halliburton, as well as blended family with Richard Hogan; Richard Lee Jr, Karen Dobrzynski, and Emily Read, 13 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Dannel Funeral Home (302 S. Walnut St. Sherman, TX 75090) on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 9:00 - 10:30 am. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 am at Holloway Cemetery in Luella, TX and lunch will be served at West Sherman Baptist Church (1830 W. Washington St. Sherman, TX 75092). All those who loved Dovie are welcome to join.

I met Dovie while she was visiting her sister, Aunt Mary in Sulphur Springs. She was very personable and I immediately liked her. She was very friendly and compassionate. Her friendly smile and quick wit will definitely be missed. Patti Froneberger

I've known Dovie all my life. We were fortunate enough to play cards together with the Templeton's when she was home from Alaska. She was a delightful lady. God Bless You! Carolyn Dexheimer
