Eugene Shaum 83 of Sherman passed away Thursday November 7 2013 at Preston House in Sherman. Family visitation will be at Dannel Funeral Home Friday November 8th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday November 9th at Rez Church 607 Burton St. in Sherman with Bishop Ken Myers officiating. Gene was born April 25 1930 in Monahans TX. His family remembers him as ornery irreverent funny. He always maintained a good sense of humor. A talented and prolific artist he loved bringing sights and textures of western and Native American scenes to canvas. Gene worked most of his life in the west Texas oil fields to provide for his family. Later in life Gene spent 18 years in the transportation department of Sherman ISD. He loved transporting children to the various schools. Eventually he was assigned to the SE bus and those children became the love of his life. He retired in 2011 at the age of 81 due to health limitations. Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife Ethel Shaum. They were happily married for 54 years which Gene considered one of his proudest accomplishments. Gene is survived by two sons: Randy Eugene Shaum & wife Joni of San Antonio and Rickey Lee Shaum and life partner Richard H. Lark of Frisco TX, grandsons: Corey Shaum Justin Shaum Jared Lee Shaum and Mychal Taylor Shaum, two step-grandchildren: Catherine Rose Lark and Deborah Elizabeth Lark. He also leaves a host of nieces nephews and loving friends.
