Obituary For Evelyn Cook

Evelyn Telford Cook, 98, long-time resident of Sherman, passed away Monday, January 16th. Her family will receive friends at Dannel Funeral Home on Saturday, January 21st from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 in West Hill Cemetery. Chaplain Dennis Noblett will officiate. Evelyn was born April 2, 1918 in Collinsville, TX, to Hugh Alexander and Rena Telford. From an early age, she was an avid student, from winning primary school spelling bees to 'S letter' sweaters' in high school. She graduated Sherman High School and continued her education at Kidd-Key College and later Austin College. She married L. T. Cook, Jr. in 1936, and they enjoyed 64 blissful years together before his death in 2001. Evelyn is remembered by those closest to her as the 'epitome of a lady'. She was always extremely independent and was not afraid of hard work. Her dry sense of humor was often on display, particularly in her later years. Evelyn took tremendous pride in her placement as Administrative Assistant to the Dean at Austin College, and in 1978, accepted the position of Executive Secretary to the Administrator at Texoma Medical Center. Suffering from chronic illness from birth, it was discovered that Evelyn had a genetic heart condition. She underwent one of the pioneering, corrective surgeries in 1975 in Dallas, TX. Preceded by her parents, her loving husband L. T., four sisters and two brothers, Evelyn is survived by two sister-in-laws Judy Telford of San Marcos and Dorothy Cook Edmiston of Weatherford, numerous nieces/nephews and extended family. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the loving care provided by Evelyn’s caregivers Mary Gaines, Annie Ezell, Linda Rockins and Ruby Holland. In lieu of flowers, the family is honored by memorial donations to Home Hospice of Grayson County at 505 W. Center St, Sherman TX, 75090 or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. Online condolences may be registered at www.dannelfuneralhome.com .
