Obituary For Floyd Stanley Elwood

Floyd Stanley Elwood, 92, of Howe, Texas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 5, 2022, in Denison, Texas.

Floyd was born in Swanton, Vermont to Gordon Elwood and Marion Chadwick Elwood on June 28, 1930. In 1948, Floyd joined the United States Army. He served as a Corporal and fought in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1952. Floyd moved to Texas in the early 80s and began his career at Sherman Wire, where he worked until his retirement. He married the love of his life, Betty Sue, on March 8, 1985, in Sherman, Texas. Floyd loved woodworking and gardening. Floyd loved Jesus and was always actively involved in his church, Fairview Baptist, and most recently Dorchester First Baptist.

Floyd is preceded in death by: his parents, his precious wife, Betty Elwood, brothers, Gordon Elwood Jr and Eldon Elwood, sisters, Carolyn Bushy and Mary Parent and sons, Danny Elwood, Larry Elwood and Terry Elwood.

Floyd is survived by his daughters, Darlene Holland and husband Lee of Pottsboro, Texas and Diane Vellotti and husband Danny of Denison, Texas; stepson, Robbie Saltzman; stepdaughter, Debbie Freeman and husband Joe of Howe, Texas, sisters; Aylda Carpenter of Northport, Florida and Ilene Cooper of Richford, Vermont; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way.

Pallbearers will be Chris Vellotti, Jared Haddock, Brian Ambler, Bobby Freeman, Kaanon Freeman, RonDale Freeman, Rusty Henley, and William Henley.

The family of Floyd Elwood wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all of the medical staff who so lovingly cared for him.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the Dorchester First Baptist Church with Pastor Zach Poling and Dr. Kevin O’Brien officiating. Burial will follow at Moore’s Chapel Cemetery in Bonham, Texas, with arrangements by Dannel Funeral Home. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas.

    My heart & prayers go out to you & your family. Floyd always had a gentle loving heart. He will be sadly missed too but forever in our heart & mind. He was my best friend & Bro-in-law. Glad he's with his family from above.
