Obituary For Frances McCune

Frances Wall McCune, 97, of Sherman, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 1, 2014. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014, at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, Texas. Grandson Jonathan Schrodt will officiate. Frances was born August 31, 1916, in Decatur, Newton County, Mississippi, to George Henry and Cora Mae Sherrod Wall. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1934. She married Paul Littleton McCune on May 8, 1938 at Grant Street Methodist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was a long-time member of the Central United Methodist Church in Brownwood, Texas, where she was active I the missions program and the Friendly Fellows – Susan Sunday School Class for many years. She was a member of the Brownwood Eastern Star #116. Her hobbies included bridge, crafts, sewing, dominoes, fishing and traveling with her husband after his retirement from Schlumberger in 1970. Frances’s nickname throughout her life was ‘Happy’. We will dearly miss the twinkle in her eyes, her infectious smile, her laughter, her 97 years of wisdom, and her encouragement. She had a servant’s heart and dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and fishing with her husband and family. Together they made precious memories for our family and lifelong friends during our many camp-outs and trips to lakes in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri. In 2002 she moved to the Renaissance Assisted Living Facility in Sherman, Texas, to be near her children and grandchildren. Our family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation and thanksgiving to all of the staff at the Renaissance, and the caregivers at The Seasons, for your compassion, your service, your dedication, and for your willingness to go above and beyond when called upon. You truly are part of her extended family. We also wish to express our gratitude to Hospice Plus caregivers for all of the compassionate care and time the gave to make her comfortable during these last few months. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, sister Earline Grimes, brother J.R. Wall, daughter-in-law Trudy McCune, brother, Obon Oswald Wall and sister-in-law Tylene Wall. She is survived by her son, Glenn Paul McCune of Mabank, TX; daughter Gaye Frances Grissom and husband Gary, of McKinney; four grandsons, three granddaughters and fourteen great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church, 1501 2nd Street, Brownwood, Texas 76801-4213; the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219; The Parkinson Voice Project, 646 N. Coit Road Ste. #2250, Richardson, Texas 75080, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
