Obituary For Fred Henry Holbrook

A graveside service for Fred Henry Holbrook, 81, of Sherman, Texas, will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. The United States Army will accord honors.

Fred was born on January 2, 1942, to Fred Tillman Holbrook and Annie Louise Holbrook in Sherman. He was raised in Sherman and attended Sherman schools along with his brother, Jerry. Upon graduating from Sherman High School in 1960, Fred began working for the railroad. After several years he joined the Army in 1968 and proudly served his country. After he left the service, he enrolled in Texas Tech University, and then began his career working for Oscar Meyer for over 20 years. After the plant closed, Fred enjoyed his retirement and loved spending time with his dogs.

Fred was a private and highly intelligent man. He loved dogs and was a train enthusiast. His hobbies included photography and technology. He will be missed by his family and those who had the fortune to know him. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Jerry Michael. He is survived by 2 nieces: Jacqui Michelle Melton and husband Greg, and Bethany Ann Wells; 3 nephews: Jason Nicholas Holbrook and wife Michelle, Joshua Evans Holbrook, and Michael Drew Holbrook; great nieces: Tedi Jade Bearden, Tyler Nicole Holbrook, Emilee Ann Wells, Fallon Dawn Holbrook; great nephews: Jason Hunter Nichols and wife Darby, Lucas Jay Holbrook, Oliver Evans Holbrook; cousin, Dennis “Denny Joe” Fontana; sister in law, Catherine Lee Foscue; 5 great-great nieces and nephews, and his canine companion, Buddy.

The family greatly appreciates the efforts of Fred’s neighbor, Jim Barnes, who over the years made sure Fred was always taken care of.
