Gary Whitney, 57, of Sherman, passed away Sunday, September 7th, at Texas Health Presbyterian/WNJ in Sherman. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, September 11th, at Dannel Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 12th in West Hill Cemetery. Pastor Leland Samuelson will officiate. Gary was born December 23, 1956 in Sherman, TX, to Wayne and Mary Alice DeWeese Whitney. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1975. Gary was a grocer extraordinaire. He was an excellent butcher, and as a young man, worked in Turley’s Grocery Store (later became Whitney’s). From there he moved to positions at Albertsons, and finally Wal-Mart. He retired from Wal-Mart as an assistant manager. His customers were always his ‘first priority’. Preceded in death by his father, Wayne Whitney and sister Vickie Whitney, Gary is survived by his loving wife Patsy Whitney, his mother Mary Alice Whitney, children: Brandee Whitney and fiancé Shane of Pottsboro, Amy Wyman of Anna, Lisa Ray of Sherman, and Chris Wyman and wife Brandi of Sherman; grandchildren: Hagan, Katarena, Chessica and Adalynn; sister Tammy Yowell and husband James of Tom Bean; brother Brad Whitney of Sherman; and a host of dear friends and customers who will cherish his memory. Serving as pallbearers are: Brad Whitney, Bradley Whitney, Chris Wyman, Hagan Whitney, Shane Hogenson, Leo Lopez, Cody Powell and Mo 'Hotrod' Alsabbagh.
