Obituary For George Anderson

The service will be a private family service due to Covid concerns.

Dr. George Anderson was a honorable Christian and a pillar of man. He loved meeting and engaging people in conversation.

George Ray Anderson was born on July 20, 1936 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to George Washington Anderson and Martha Henrietta Wilson Anderson. He graduated in 1955 from Kemp High School, Kemp, Oklahoma and upon graduation attended The University of Southeastern Oklahoma State where he was the President of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. In 1975 George earned his Doctor of Education, from the University of North Texas. George was honored to serve the United States in the United States Army with the Rank of Lieutenant Colonel 95th Division.

George married the “love of his life”; Frankie Cumming on June 26, 1964 in Sherman Texas at Friendship Methodist Church. George and Frankie were blessed by God with two children; Dr. Brent Ray Anderson, Stacy Michelle Anderson (Brent)Davis. Both George and Frankie have had the wonderful blessing of three grandchildren; Parker, Iszabella and Elizabeth and they were the apple of his eye.

Dr. Anderson began his service of teaching and education as a Science Teacher in Durant, Oklahoma and proceeded to establish that teaching career at Saginaw and Denison, Texas Independent School Districts. Dr. Anderson later moved into the development and leadership roles of Assistant and Superintendent of the Durant School system where he later retired however, he continued to make an impact in the lives of countless young people as a Drivers Education Instructor at Texoma Driving School for fifteen years and as a substitute teacher during his retirement as a teacher and school administrator.

George accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, April 1952 at Kemp Baptist Church at sixteen years of age. He was influenced by his grandmother; Rosa Rebecca Jane May to attend and become a follower and influencer of Christ to others. George later as an adult began to share the message of Christ love and John 3:16 by becoming a deacon in he and his families various churches where they were members throughout their lives. George became a Gideon Speaker and continued his love and passion for sharing the message of God’s love and eternal life with Christ Jesus to countless young people, various church congregations and passed out Gideon bibles to various, schools and hospitals as well as placed bibles in hotels across Oklahoma and Texas.

George enjoyed playing baseball and basketball while he was in High School at Kemp, Oklahoma. Throughout his life he loved watching The Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and all sports of The University of Oklahoma.

Survivors include wife, children, grandchildren, brother; Dr. Bill (Pansy) Anderson, Sisters in law; Sandra Yantis and Patricia Cummings as well as several nieces, nephew, extended family members and host of friends. George will be deeply missed in countless ways by all that knew him. George’s celebration of a life well lived is under the direction of Charles Dannel and Dannel Funeral Home. The life and legacy of George will be honored in a private graveside ceremony with immediate family due to the seriousness of the Coronavirus and safety of all those we cherish.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family request that you make a contribution in George’s remembrance to one of the following organizations: West Sherman Baptist Church, Friendship Cemetery Association, The Gunter Independent School System, The University of Southeastern Oklahoma or the Charity of your choice.

    Ragon Michael

    Mr. Anderson was one of my favorite teachers at Durant High School. I was only there for my senior year, so my association with him was relatively short. Although I didn't recognize it at the time, he had a dramatic influence on my life and career. I looked forward to each day's science class knowing that I would learn something new and lasting. He was an example of kindness and had an optimistic outlook that has stuck with me throughout my career. I know he will be missed. My condolences to his family. Ragon Michael ( DHS Class of 1961).

    Stacy was my doubles tennis partner in high school. Frequently, I'd drop her off at home after practice or a match, Dr. Anderson would often meet us at the car to see how we did and get all the details. His real legacy is a quiet lesson in love. He always showed it. Made you feel it. Honestly, I think maybe his heart was so full, he couldn't keep it all in. George let it spill out, everywhere and onto everyone he came into contact with. I know I am better for having received some of it. My sincerest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and communities that shared him too. We may have lost your physical presence but we will carry you with us always. Thank you and so long, George!

    Who could forget Mr. Anderson? He was the most loved teacher of the Class of 1961. Our leader of the Pep Squad, never missed a ride on the school bus with us. My Mother had great respect for Mr. Anderson, she would also ride the bus with our DHS Squad when needed. He was a man of honor, lived his life as a true example for all of us. It was always the highlight of our Class Reunions when he was able to attend. This world will be a little less bright without him. Sandra Whitehead McKee-Class of 1961

    Noel McBee

    Mr. Anderson touched many lives of the DHS Class of 1961. He was first our Student Teacher and then our Science Teacher. All of our class thought the world of Mr. Anderson. He was also the chaperon for the Pep Squad and Cheerleaders on out of town trips. He attended some of our Class Reunions and yes, he knew all the names of his former students. He instilled in us to be good citizens and to respect others. He also set many of us on our career paths and his quite and sincere character has served us all the remainder of our lives -- He was our Friend Noel McBee - Class of 1961

    George was a very loved and respected teacher of my class of 1960. He touched so many lives at Durant High School and as he attended our high school reunion many years later he called us by name and shared memories of the years he was with us.. He never realized how many ways he taught us respect and character as an example to follow. He was always Mr. Anderson until we graduated and then "George Anderson " as a friend.     My family has known George for a long time. I cherished our friendship. He was a wonderful father in law to our youngest son. I've never known a better Kind and sweet man. Such a sweet Christian man. Loved by all who knew him. I shall miss our chats as we went to our heart doctor appts. A life well lived Dr. George Anderson. My love to your precious family.
