Obituary For George Orville Chavers

Funeral services for George Orville Chavers, 81, of Sherman, Texas, will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas at 2:00 PM. Elder John Mark Clark, Elder Gerald Manning, and Elder Clifford Gowens will officiate. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Akers Cemetery in Sherman.

George Orville Chavers was born on February 18, 1940, the last of 5 sons born to Howard and Inez Chavers, near Atmore, AL. He served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force before beginning a career as an elevator construction mechanic, retiring in 1998.

In 1986, George married Paulette Willis Manning, and they made their home in Molino, FL, near Pensacola. George enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, often sharing the bounty with others. He also had a vast love of books, having read many since a young boy. George was a deacon and devout member of Dixie Primitive Baptist Church in Whitesboro, TX. He had abundant love of his savior and his brothers and sisters in Christ.

George was preceded in death by his parents and by 3 brothers: Eubie, Arbie, and Elzie Chavers. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Paulette; his only surviving brother, Frank Chavers of Estero, FL; Children loved as his own: Austin Manning, Christi Manning Cobert (David) all of Sherman, TX, and Gerald Manning (Meg) of Pensacola, FL.; Six grandchildren: Brandi, Victoria, William, Valerie, Maeve, and Quinn; plus 3 great grandchildren: Gabriel, Andrew, and Emma; Sisters-in-law: LeWise Chavers, Mary Brindler, and Brenda Willis; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
