Obituary For Hazel Christeen Cork

A Celebration of Life for Hazel Christeen Cork will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Dannel Funeral Home. Her daughter, Penny Dornbush, will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Ivey, Raden Ivey, Christian Williams, Stephen Williams, Nathan Dornbush, Nicolas Dornbush, Jonathan Cork, Jonathan Chase Cork, Jason Mitchell, Joseph Quintanilla, and Matthew Hanes.

Hazel Christeen (Gentry) Cork was born in Gainesboro, Tennessee to Issac and Mary Ellen Gentry on July 22,1933. She spent a majority her childhood with her parents and 14 siblings in Tennessee. Hazel worked in the cotton fields starting at the age of 14 counting and weighing cotton bails for a local farmer. Hazel was proud of the "Gentry" name and what it meant to the local community. Often she stated, "your name is the most important thing you have" Eventually the family relocated to Texas in the Electra and Honeygrove area where Hazel met and married Jack Cork on August 19,1951. Jack was in the Army so they moved all over the United States including Walla Walla Washington. After the military Jack and Hazel established their home in Sherman Tx where they raised their 7 daughters and 1 son: Judy Reason, Rose Marie Edwards, Jackie Diane Flores, Mary Jane Cork, Connie Camacho, Penny Dornbush, Stacy Cork and Jonathon Cork. Hazel was known for her unconditional love for her Children and Grandchildren. She not only showered them with love but taught them life lessons that will never be forgotten. Hazel was known for being Honest and to the point at all times. She said what she believed and believed what she said. Faith in God and and family was always first in her life. She was a Devoted Christian, Mother, Grandmother and Friend.

Hazel had a love for people and loved serving others. Hazel was a practicing LVN who nursing career included Paris Tx community hospital, Sherman Community Hospital, Wilson and Jones Hospital in Sherman and a variety of Nursing Home facilities located in Sherman. She had a servants heart and love for serving others.

She enjoyed a good game of 42 in dominoes, playing cards, having family together, playing with her grandchildren, taking short trips and Loved her cat Cosmo and her dog Zoe they gave her great comfort and companionship.

Hazel Christeen Cork was the Matriarch of her family and she will be greatly missed by many.

Hazel is survived by 6 daughters: Judy Reason of Montana, Marie Edwards and husband Larry of Alabama, Jackie Diane Flores of Denison, Connie Camacho and husband Jeremiah of Sherman, Penny Dornbush and the late Rev. Scott Dornbush of Houston, and Anastasia Cork of Sherman; a son: Jonathan Cork and wife Sonya of Bells; 20 grandchildren: Joy and Roger Ivey, Matthew and Shaquille Hanes, Christal and Jason Mitchell, Nathan and Nicolas Dornbush, Joseph Quintanilla, Chase and Ariel Cork, Jade Parks, Dawn and Trevor Mangus,Patty Ball, Julian Flores, Eddie Reynolds and Sandra Marquez, Steven Roman and Christopher Roman; many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded death by her husband, Jack F. Cork, a daughter, Mary Jane Cork, her parents, and 14 brothers and sisters.
