Obituary For Hazel Frances Johnson

Hazel Frances Johnson, 89, of Sherman went to meet her Lord on Thursday, March 7, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at Wilson N. Jones Hospital. A Celebration of her life will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. Pastor Larry Goodwin of The Refuge Church will officiate. Interment will follow the service at West Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Sunday, March 10, from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Dannel Funeral Home.

Hazel was born to Floyd and Gracie Flowers on August 7, 1929 in Sherman, Texas. She was the second child of five. She was raised in Sherman and attended Sherman schools. She was well known in Sherman and well liked. Family meant everything to her and she also loved to sing. She loved her Lord Jesus and her church, The Refuge, which she attended with her grandson. She was kind and compassionate and had a sweet spirit, but she was never afraid to hold her family accountable if they needed to be reminded of how to behave. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, mother in law, great-grandmother and friend. Her spirit will live on in the family that she loved and cared for all of her life on this Earth. She made such a huge impact on even the care givers that took care of her towards the end of her life. You didn’t have to be related for her to treat you like family, that is how big her heart is. She will be greatly missed.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Claude Sidney Johnson, and a son, Butch Godwin. She is survived by 3 daughters: Hazel Camp of Savoy, TX; Katie Cowart of Howe, TX; and Gracie Stegman and husband Bobby of Savoy, TX; 11 grandchildren: Ray (Junior) Johnson, Renee (Nasypoo) Dyke, Bobby Stegman, Jr., Tristen Stegman, Angel Cowart, Butch Godwin, Paula Camp, Joe Godwin, Michael Johnson, Alonda Blanscett, and John Johnson, Jr.; several great and great-great grandchildren.
