Obituary For Jack Arthur Groves

A Celebration of the Life of Jack Arthur Groves will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. Rev. Nancy Powers of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Pottsboro, Texas will officiate. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service. As were his wishes, Jack was cremated and the family will scatter his ashes at a later date.

Jack was born on August 10, 1939 in Sherman, Texas to Lafayette “Jack” Washington Groves and Jewel Watson Groves. He was raised in Sherman and went to Sherman schools. He started working for the Sherman Democrat and eventually became the head photographer for many years. Jack lived a fascinating and adventurous life that took him travelling all over Europe and he lived for a time in Hawaii. He loved corvettes and would go all over the United States with his Corvette Car Club. He eventually moved back to the DFW area and started working for the Collin County Sheriffs Office. He would say that he loved working for the Sheriffs office and he retired after 20 years as the head of communications.

Jack had a zest for life and a love of women. He loved Corvettes, good music, good western books, good food, and he loved New Orleans. He would go many years with his daughter, Lisa, to Jazz Fest where there was plenty of what he loved, especially, jazz, blues and Marcia Ball. He passed away peacefully at Carrus Specialty Hospital on May 10th, from lung complications.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Norman Groves. He is survived by his son, Jason Groves and his wife Summer, of Austin; daughters: Lisa Groves Naquin of Sherman, and Jill Groves of Pottsboro; 5 grandchildren: Connor and Dennis Naquin III, Michael and Stephen Groves, and Alex Sanchez; son in laws: Dennis Naquin, Jr. and David Sanchez; 2 great-granddaughters and a nephew, Greg Groves.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Jack Groves. I always admired and respected Jack for his calm, cool, and collected demeanor, as well as his great sense of humor, and ready smile, that brightened everyone's day. I admit that there is less laughter in the world without Jack, but I know that our loss is Heaven's gain. Terri Manning Retired Plano PSC, Collin County SO

I was so sorry to read of Jack's passing. We had communicated on Face book recently and I always enjoyed his posts, as we had similar political views. I will definitely miss his posts. I always looked forward to his posts on "I grew up in Sherman and am Proud of it." He shared some interesting pictures. Prayers for the family. Betty Hunter Moseley
