Obituary For Jack Gregory Smart

In the early hours of Tuesday, January 6, 2021, Jack Gregory Smart left his world to be reunited with his loving wife & our Heavenly Father. He is rejoicing and asking Peter and Paul tons of questions. No longer in pain, and happy to be in the Glory of Heaven. Daddy, you were and always will be, my hero!

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2012 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman with Rev. Brian Taylor of Forest Avenue Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman.

Jack – ‘Greg’ as he was known by family and friends – was a life-long resident of Grayson County. He was born January 8, 1947 in WNJ Hospital to Jack Andrew Smart and Joan Marie Hansen Smart. Growing up in Denison, he joined the United States Air Force immediately upon graduation from Denison High School. He served two tours during the Vietnam war and was awarded numerous medals and commendations. He was most proud of the Quilt of Honor he received, after being nominated by his church family.

He met the love of his life in June 1966. He always said it was ‘love at first sight’. He proposed on Halloween 1966, and they were married June 6, 1967, at East Sherman Baptist Church. He and his beloved Peggy traveled and were stationed in many places. Greg got out of the USAF in 1976, because he wanted their only child, Tammy Ludawn, to have roots close to both sets of grandparents. Greg and Peggy enjoyed forty wonderful years together before her death in August 2007.

Always a devout Christian, Greg served as deacon in many churches, the last being Forest Avenue Baptist Church in Sherman. He loved each and every member of that congregation, and never missed a service until he became ill in 2019.

Greg loved playing golf and spending as much time as possible with his beloved family. He loved teaching each of them about Jesus and the Bible, and was always up for lively discussion concerning scripture.

Jack ‘Greg’ Smart is survived by daughter Tammy Mrozinski and husband Jimmy, of Sherman; grandson Zack Mrozinski and BreAnna, of Sherman; granddaughter Carley Guerrero; great-grandchildren Berkeley Grace and Riley James Guerrero; brothers: Larry Smart and Maggie, of McKinney, Jeff Smart and Renee, of Denison; sister-in-law Myra Miller and Joe, of China Springs; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Charles Hopper Smart, parents Jack Andrew and Joan Marie Hansen Smart, in-laws William Ocie Hopper and Margareatea McCord Hopper, and one sister, Karla Smart Sterns.

Daddy, you were the best example of a good Christian man to all who knew you. There will always be a big hole in my heart, but I know you are happy to be with Momma again. Give her a big hug and kiss from all of us. Until we are together again, Love – Your Baby Girl
