Obituary For Jacqueline Hallett
Jacqueline Marcella Hallett, of Sherman, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 in Howe, Texas. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 18th at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19th in Dannel Chapel. Rev. Joe Ed Goolsby, of First United Methodist Church in Sherman, will officiate. Interment will follow immediately afterward in West Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Hallett was born December 15, 1917, in Sherman, Texas, to James Nelson and Callie McBride Dickson. She graduated from Sherman High School, and later from Austin College. She was Special Student at Kidd-Key College in Sherman. She married Severn J. Hallett, of Duncan, OK, on June 29, 1941 in Sherman, Texas. She taught school in the Van Alstyne ISD, and was later employed by the U.S. Corps Engineers during construction of the Denison Dam. After completion of the Lake Texoma Project, she worked for the Military Projects, Material and Equipment Division. She also helped her husband in the operation of the Hallett Landscaping Service. At various times, she had volunteered with the Office of Peace Administration, The American Red Cross, American Cancer Association, March of Dimes, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association and many other civic organizations. She had been active in Cub Scouts, Camp Fire Blue Birds and the PTA. She was a past-member of the Sherman Garden Club, Rio Rojo Study Club, and was Exemplar Past President of Beta Sigma Phi chapters. She was named 'Outstanding Woman' of North and East Texas of Beta Sigma Phi. She was also Past President of Austin College Alumnal Association, and she had served on the Board of Directors of Austin College Alumni Association. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church - joining in 1925 - where she taught kindergarten for 15 years. In addition, she was a charter member and officer of the Wesleyan Service Guild. She served on the Executive Board of United Methodist Women for over 30 years, and was a Life Member. She had served on the Official Board of the church and was a member of the Adult Fellowship Class. She was a member of both the Grayson County and the Texas State Teachers' Associations. She was a member and had served on the Executive Board of American Association of University Women. She was a member of the Red River Historical Museum of Sherman, as well as the Texas Archeological Society. Mrs. Hallett was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Severn J. Hallett and her son, James Michael Hallett. Survivors include her daughter, Judy Davidson and husband Scott, of Rehoboth, NM; daughter-in-law, Melodee Hallett, of Salida, CO; grandsons: Carey Hallett of Salida, CO, Joel Davidson of Phoenix, AZ, and Nathan Davidson of Farmington, NM; great-grandchildren: Amanda Hallett, Alyssa Hallett, and Caleb Hallett, of Salida, CO. Heartfelt thanks are due to all the health care providers involved in Jacqueline's life, with special acknowledgement to Teresa McLain and family.
