Obituary For James Larry Groves

In Loving Memory of James Larry Groves (1932-2023)

James Larry Groves, former resident of Sherman, Texas, and for the past 7 years a resident of McKinney, Texas, passed away on October 19, 2023, at the age of 91. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Born in 1932, James grew up with a strong work ethic and a passion for aviation. After completing high school, he pursued his dreams by joining the United States Air Force, where he served as a dedicated air force mechanic. James's expertise and commitment to his craft made a lasting impact on the aircraft he worked on and the colleagues he served beside.

Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, James embarked on a new chapter of his life. He found fulfillment and joy in a career at Johnson and Johnson, where he continued to demonstrate his exceptional skill and dedication. James's contributions as a mechanic at Johnson and Johnson were highly valued, and he formed lasting friendships with his colleagues.

Beyond his professional achievements, James was a devoted family man. He married the love of his life, Margaret Kathleen Lee on December 19, 1970. He cherished his role as a husband to his beloved wife. He and his wife were members of Victory Baptist church for many years. In his free time, James enjoyed pursuing his hobbies, which included tinkering in his workshop, reading books on history, and spending time outdoors flying his airplane. His curiosity and thirst for knowledge were evident in his wide range of interests, and he was always eager to engage in meaningful conversations, especially about current events, religion and his aircraft hobby. James Larry Groves leaves behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and love. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Kathleen Groves, his step daughter and step son-in- law Carolyn and John Meiners. He has 2 step granddaughters, Kelly Holcomb, and husband Ronnie and the late Caroline Kerrane. He also has 5 step great grandsons, Devin, Hunter, Austin, Trevor and Easton. While our hearts are heavy with grief, we find solace in the knowledge that James has left an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Hospice and the Visiting Nurses Association for their outstanding compassion and care they gave to James. Also, to James and Kathleen’s caregiver, Flavia, for her never ending attention and compassion she showed for James and continues to show and care for Kathleen. We will be forever grateful and feel blest to have all of them.

The family has made arrangements for a private memorial service to celebrate James's life. James Larry Groves will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
