Obituary For James Michael Hicks

James Michael "Mike" Hicks died on June 12, 2018 in Dallas after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born December 29, 1943, the second son of R.G. and Helen Canon Hicks. He attended Sherman schools, graduating from Sherman High School in 1962. He received his BBA from Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth, and had a successful career in marketing and product development.

Mike married his lifelong friend, Kathryn Green, and they celebrated every day of their 33 years together. He and Kathryn co-founded Performance Plus, an Employee Assistance Program, where he thrived utilizing both his professional skills and his deep love to positively affect the lives of colleagues, employees, and clients.

Mike was well known throughout Sherman and Grayson County. He was a Bearcat supporter and a member of the Sherman Ex-Students Association. He was an avid fisherman who loved country western music. He knew all the lyrics to every old country western song,

Mike was predeceased by his parents, his sister Hilary Groves and nephew Christopher Groves. He is survived by Kathryn and by his brothers, Joe (Jo Carolyn) of Sherman and Pat (Sherry) of Richardson. He will be greatly missed by his numerous nieces and nephews and their children to whom he was a cherished and indulgent uncle. Mike is also survived by several children he and Kathryn took under their wings throughout the years, who looked to Mike as a beloved father and mentor. Everyone who knew Mike will be forever affected by his great wit and his generous and gracious spirit.

We invite you to celebrate his life on Friday, June 22, 2018, at 3 pm at Central Christian Church in Sherman and afterwards to gather with family and friends at Sherman Country Club, 5-7 pm.
